Re: ATF Email
.... the BATFE. They are publicans who wish to disarm us and perform no useful purpose. Um... I don't have any disagreement with what I think the sentiment is, but I am curious what a "publican" is. I know the "keeper of a public house" meaning, but I don't think that's what you...

Re: Any PC gamers here?
I'll be 64 soon, and people are pretty surprised when I mention computer games. I've played just about everything since the original Advent (aka Colossal Cave) and Zork (played using a 300-baud acoustic coupler talking to the Dec 10 at MIT via the San Diego TIP and using a DecWriter for a terminal)....

Re: Austin: Attempted suicide at shooting range
Almost without doubt. This is why many ranges in Southern California won't rent a gun to a person who's alone.O6nop wrote: I'm assuming she went there and rented a gun.

Re: Fair value of a pristine 586, 4"
Given that you won't pay sales tax, shipping or FFL fee, it's a very fair price; possibly not a really great price, but a very fair one.

Ruger 96 replacement butt plate
I recently bought a Ruger 96/44 (the lever action .44 Mag). Pretty nice little gun, except the butt plate sucks (in my opinion, of course). It's poorly shaped, very hard, and extremely slick. Every time I shot it, whether off-hand or from sand bags, it would slide to the right on my shoulder no matt...

Re: Any information: Springfield 1911 doublestack .45
Here's the link to the appropriate Springfield Armory page: http://www.springfield-armory.com/armory.php?version=11 . Springfield claims it weighs 40oz with an empty magazine. If that's true, then it's legal for IDPA in the ESP and CDP classes. You would have to load the mags with only ten rounds fo...

Re: another dumb 1911 question
I've used five of the eight-round CobraMags from Tripp Research ( http://www.trippresearch.com/ ) for about three years in my Springfield Trophy Match. They work flawlessly. They cost a little more ($33) than the cheapest McCormicks and Metalforms, and a little less than the most expensive from thos...

Para-Ordnance's web site (http://www.para-usa.com/new/dealer.php) shows
Hoguns Sporting
(210) 521-2288
8069 Culebra Rd
San Antonio, TX
as the only one in San Antonio. Austin has bunches - see the link above. Nagels used to carry Para; it might be worth calling them to see if they have any left.

Re: Winchester Model 94 field strip guide?
There's a reason that the Winchester manual says you shouldn't try to take it apart. However, if you're adamant that you want to do it, here's a good guide: http://www.castbullet.com/misc/tdown.htm . Make absolutely certain that you have a good set of hollow-ground screwdrivers before you start this.

Re: Marlin 444 question
... I am concerned about the recoil- I know my 336 chambered in .30-30 has a pretty hefty wallop.... In that case, there's a good chance that you won't like shooting the .444 much at all. The rifle is essentially the same weight as your 336, and the .444 starts off with roughly 50% more muzzle ener...

Re: Ammo price check
$200 for 500 rounds is slightly more than Walmart's price for Remington UMC 230gr FMJ 250-round boxes, which was about $97 (including sales tax) some two or three weeks ago at the Seguin Walmart. I don't know about Winchester White Box, since they were out of that. Also, that doesn't count the large...

Apparently Centerfire Systems http://www.centerfiresystems.com/1911.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; has RIA 1911s.... In addition to Centerfire, SportingArms.com http://www.sportingarms.com handles Armscor/Rock Island products, as does Robertson Trading Post http://www...

Re: Why don't sellers clean their guns before they ship them ?
Interesting. I've bought eight guns off of the net in the last four years. Two came from private sellers, two from pawn shops, and the others from fun dealers. With one exception, all were in pristine condition. The exception was a well-used, daily-carry pistol from an individual, and it was clean e...

Re: Angry 4 yr old shoots babysitter with shotgun
I don't believe a word of it. From a child development perspective (cognitively speaking).... I'd bet the older children where playing with the weapon, accidentally discharged it and then made up a story. [/rant] I would have been inclined to agree with you (though for somewhat different reasons); ...
