I was having the same problem with my old Linksys. Bought a new Netgear 3700 v4. It has been flawless.

I carry my Governor every time that I am in the yard. We have snakes, foxes, bobcats, and just about every other varmint. The foxes used to want my Schnauzer for their dinner. Wasn't gonna happen as long as I was there.
