That's a completely valid feeling, and I understand :)

You can go and try to purchase one, they're not going to send the black vans and choppers if it comes back denied, or on a waitlist. The worst that can happen is they say 'no', and then you know, it's not sorted yet, the best, well, you get a shiney new firearm! :thumbs2:

Cool Arrow wrote:Thanks dicion for the advise, my buddy has one of those 1911's and it is nice! To rich for me at this time but I will get me one, one of these days. I just want to get this taken care of so I can feel like a whole person again and not like a second class citizen. I am also wondering if I should try and purchase a firearm first then try for the CHL or the other way around.
Well, I wouldn't try to purchase one until you're sure the Feds have gotten the updated info and had time to process it into their system, as it might return a hit on NICS until they do. Thats the good thing about the CHL, once you get it, no more phone-in NICS checks to worry about :thumbs2:

You could look into purchasing a used firearm from someone on the forums, at a gun show, or a site like TexasGunTrader for a face to face transaction. Private party sales are the preferred method for purchasing firearms for some people precisely because they do not require a call to Uncle Sam for permission, and some people just do not like the government to know anything that they're doing/how many firearms they own.

Just be aware that being a 'felon in possession' of a firearm is a crime of it's own, and if it shows that you were convicted of a felony in the officer's system, whether expunged yet or not, they're going to treat it that way until it gets sorted out. If I were you, I'd carry around a copy of that 'set aside' paperwork with me, at least until I am 99% certain it doesn't show up anywhere anymore.

Re: New guy here

Waiting indeed, as there is a decent amount involved in the process, although nowhere near as long as it used to take "rlol"

Congratulations on keeping on the straight and narrow, unfortunately, there's lots of people out there that think one past mistake should ruin your entire life. However, I pretty sure that most of us here at the forums know that people make mistakes, and believe that yes, they should pay properly for them, but once that payment is done, they should have their life fully re-instated.

The PX4 Storm is a very good handgun, but as said above, be sure to try out any handgun before you purchase it. Best way to do it is to find a range that rents a wide variety of handguns, and go there for a session to try them out.

I'll go one step further than above, and recommend, in my own personal highly weighted opinion, that you should purchase a handgun with a caliber that starts in "4"... and ends in "5 ACP" :smilelol5:

But that just might be my love of 1911's talking... :tiphat:

Stick around, read some of the past more popular threads and FAQ lists created around. Soon enough, you too will be telling people to 'keep reading all the way to (i)' like the rest of us :thumbs2:
