It's the law that was passed making concealed carry legal in the State of Texas.
Darn it, I forgot the little winking smilie. Sorry.

And I'm glad I didn't miss some other law named concealed weapons act. We've had this for 20 years now. You'd think they'd get a clue as to what it is called.

Re: Signs for the CHLer

The first one is a gunbuster sign, probably similar to this one. With a CHL, this one can be ignored.
Image

The second one is a valid 30.06 sign like this one. This sign is seen in many different colors and there are signs with the Spanish wording different. The 30.06 statue does not list the exact Spanish wording like it does in English, so I don't know which is correct and which is incorrect. And there are font requirements. I would not ignore this one.

Here's one with the Spanish a little different.

This is the third one. This is the sign I most often see. It is at all places that sell alcohol for on site consumption and off. With a CHL, this one can be ignored.

Re: Signs for the CHLer

nick77 wrote:I took my chl course just last month. The instructor told us that a 'gunbuster' sign serves as effective notice only to the employees of a business that posts such a sign. In other words, If your place of employment posts a gunbuster sign, you can't carry there. (giving notice in the employee manual or during new employee orientation is also sufficient notice regarding prohibition of guns in the workplace). However, any customers who enter your place of employment can legally carry, assuming they don't have a 30.06 sign posted as well.
If one has a CHL and are an employee of a business that posts a gunbuster sign it is effective notice that you could lose your job. It is not effective notice that you could be arrested and charged. For that to happen the notice would have to be a sign conforming to the requirements laid out in 30.06. For notice in the employee manual just the wording has to be exact. However, if you are given oral notice during a new employee orientation they got you there.

I'm sorry you felt the need to put it away. Didn't your CHL instructor cover stuff like this?

S&Wgrl wrote:Hi, I'm new to the forum. I've been lurking for a few weeks though. Kudos for an awesome site.
I haven't gotten my CHL yet. I'm taking the class this weekend. Anyway this sign is posted where I work. It has the gun buster sign and says: Firearms are prohibited in this building. LAW (V.C.S ART 4413 29ee) I'm assuming that it's not considered legal notice. My company has a no firearms policy unless you have proper consent. I plan to ask for that as soon as I get my license. So what say ye? Legal notice or not? Thanks!
Hold up there S&WGrl.

Your employer currently has a sign that does not conform to 30.06. Is there anything in the employee handbook, if one exists, that says you cannot bring a gun inside? I suspect there might be since they did post a relevant sign from about 15 years ago. They probably posted it then and never updated it. I also assume since you said you are going to ask that no one has told you that you cannot bring a gun inside.

If there is no other written notice and you have not been given oral notice then even if you were discovered you could not be prosecuted for criminal trespassing, but you could and probably would loose your job. If you are close with your employer, and by that I mean the people that make the decisions, and you are already fairly sure what the answer will be or that simply asking the question will not place a target on you then I might go ahead and ask. Stranger things have happened and some have been given permission.

Another completely unselfish thing to consider is that if you ask them and point out their old non-compliant sign they may put up a new compliant one. Do you work in a place where the public comes in? Currently, non-employees can carry in your place of employment, but if they change the sign the law abiding CHL will be taking the walk of shame back to their vehicle talking to themselves all the way and wondering if they really need to go in there at all.

Re: Signs for the CHLer

I have followed this since I've been on the forum and read much of the three or so threads on this and still don't know how they knew about her gun in the first place. Does anyone remember?

What answer are you referring to? That link goes to a quoted reply. :confused5
Ya gotta click on the title after you get to the reply.
I got that, but what question does page 2 answer? I gleaned it and didn't notice anything related here.
It was the nurse. The nurse was arrested, but not prosecuted. It didn't say how long the nurse was in jail, but they were there.

They used to be, but as Tamie said, know they must post according to 30.06 or give effective notice some other way.

sublevel wrote:It was in class we were told that it served as notice... because thats where it became confusing about that sign being posted on the nursing home when I posed that question along with another (hospitals, church, etc section)

honestly Im left with lots of unanswered questions from class... I know this is a good place to ask, but who would have the ultimate answers? TDPS? the "laywers" at [Pre-paid legal service]? (hope to get something informative from there service)

I want to make sure I am educated correctly and don't cross the wrong line, Ive been reading alot but Im sure "Ill have a newb with questions" post VERY SOON

thanks again
I am sorry for the poor instruction it appears you received. A gun buster sign is absolutely NOT effective notice to someone with a CHL. Hospitals and churches must also post 30.06 signs in English and Spanish according to the 30.06 statute.

You can and will find many answers here. Some are definitive and some are less than definitive because the law is unclear and there is no case law to help us out in many circumstances. This forum exists because of the kindness and forethought of Charles Cotton. He is a lawyer and has fought hard for our gun rights for many years. He's the only lawyer I can think of at the moment on this forum, but there are also many police officers, also known as LE or LEO for Law Enforcement or Law Enforcement Officer. They are able to give us their insight into what happens in the real world in many situations.

There's a picture of the ones up at Grapevine Mills Mall in one of these threads around here.

And, of course, there's always the blue 51% signs.
