Won't hear it from me. If that's the rule, I'm fine with it. A teeny-tiny little bit disappointed, but it wouldn't keep from the range or event.AndyC wrote:They do say it - and it's thanks to all the swaggering idiots who used the excuse of "Oh, oops, I didn't know I wasn't allowed to have a magazine in place" - you can thank them for the fact that it's now banned. I don't speak FOR Elm Fork, I'm just telling you all how it is.
Put it another way - rapid-fire is perfectly legal, but you can't do it there or you'll be asked to leave. Their range, their rules - now if a stupid little issue like that is going to bring out all the jailhouse lawyers here arguing "It's my RIGHT!", I don't want to be a part of it.

Re: DFW Get Together
That's fine Andy. It just sounded like they were saying that it's illegal. If that's their policy I wish they would just say it. It's kinda like when a business says their insurance company requires a no firearms policy, but they are just using that as an excuse to restrict something they really don't want anyway.AndyC wrote:Unless the property-owner decides otherwise - that law in no way forces a range owner to allow OC, any more than a CHL allows you to carry into a premises where you're asked not to.you may open carry... in the commission of a sporting activity (competition, shooting ranges, etc.), and while engaged in hunting.
Elm Fork does allow OC during certain events eg IDPA shoots by people near the firing line (holstered, empty chamber, no magazine, etc) - but it's at their sole discretion, and they're real tight about when and where. Try and force the issue and they're within their rights to tell you to leave.

Re: DFW Get Together
Haven't found it in the code yet, but this is from http://www.texasgunlaws.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.
Q: Can I strap a gun on my hip in Texas?
A: No, with some exceptions. Open carry is not legal in Texas, but you may open carry on your own property, in the commission of a sporting activity (competition, shooting ranges, etc.), and while engaged in hunting.

Interesting. I didn't know that Elm Fork was owned by the city. I thought it was private property and a gun range where guns are expected.AndyC wrote:I think the Diva events are twice a year.C-dub wrote:How does March 30th sound? If we're going to BBQ I can't wait to see all the BBQ rigs that will be on display due to the ability to OC at a range, no?
As for OC, I had thought the same - but it would be a no-no even there at the range. When I asked why, I was told that it's still city property and would be considered the same as OC on a city sidewalk by LEO

Re: DFW Get Together
Schedule permitting I'll be there. I was at the last one that Hoi Polloi put together. I didn't have a shotgun then and didn't go back with AndyC to shoot clays, but this time I will if he's game. Besides, he still has yet to shoot my Benelli M2 3-gun and I would love to see what he can do with it.
