Re: A disappointing State Fair episode 10-1-09
Wow!! WTG pdubyoo! I take that as a definite positive, as DPS counsel contacted State Fair counsel.
That may be the catalyst needed to have the State Fair organization change that silly policy.
You get 2 thumbs up from me on doing that, with thanks!

Re: A disappointing State Fair episode 10-1-09
Good post fizteach! Thanks for sharing!
The inconsistencies are incredible. Either there is GROSS miscommunication on the security company disseminating their desires to the front gates(which would normally be done at a staff meeting for ALL staff gate people to hear), or SOME security supervisor type(s) are going to each gate(with some gates being missed), and giving instructions to the person on hand at the time, and all front gate people are not getting the trickle down instructions from the "top". To me it's certainly not a "corporate policy" type instruction that's being given.....only piecemeal. Which means it's not an official policy at all.....only the desires of a few people in supervisory positions. Which makes that an even more dangerous(if that's the proper word) proposition on the security of the information that we volunteer to those few that "require" it.
On a different note, I listened in its entirety( except for the FIRST 48 minutes, starting at 4pm) to the Wells Report on KLIF, 570AM., and heard nothing about the State Fair inquisition on CHL holders. Did I miss something?

Re: A disappointing State Fair episode 10-1-09
That's very possible. I didn't go into much detail as time was quickly running out before he had to go on the air. I was hoping he'd have time to read the thread, but apparently he didn't.I read your email to JD and it didn't seem to convey what happened originally well enough for JD to understand what is going on.
Well maybe the more emails he receives on the subject, the more interest he will have in the issue.

Re: A disappointing State Fair episode 10-1-09
killerfly128, I sent JDW an email on Friday. As he responded back to me, I assume he got it. See P.12 of this thread. I also supplied him with a link to this thread so he could read it and ingest all of what we've said, so he can make a rational decision on how/if he wants to handle it on his show.killerfly128 wrote: I spoke with JD today about it. When ever he was told about it the facts were a bit off, JD is rather concerned with the legality of all of this and has to make sure he has all his ducks in a row before attacking this issue. I am sure that if JD and his staff were to look at it further and make sure that the state fair is out of line on this legally he will gladly go to bat. Someone just needs to take the time to get a lengthy email put together and send it to him VIA email then follow up with a phone call. I am sure it would help get the ball rolling if an attorney also contacted Mr. Wells and gave some advice on why he should cover this. I think we have a few attorneys on her so if one could lend a hand it would make things much smoother. My guess is that JD has received some flack in the past with the whole CHL issue and wants to make sure he has a leg to stand on before presenting it to his rather large listener base.

Re: A disappointing State Fair episode 10-1-09
I totally agree. This abuse of so called "policy" cannot continue. The State Fair of Texas is NOT a local or city, or even regional event. It is a State event, that invites participants all over our great State to participate in everything from horse shows, cattle shows..indeed every type of livestock show. Not to mention exhibitions and contests where participants from all over the State compete. The baking exhibits at the Women's Exhibit, to the Livestock Exhibition.C-dub wrote:Well, it sounds like we've a new goal the next legislative session. If we can't get this resolved before then we need to get this better defined in the law.
The security official that said "the state fair is an amusement park", is an outrageous insult to my heritage, my beliefs in this great State, and my fervent conviction that the State Fair is a statewide Institution ingrained into the hearts of every Texan, steeped in history and tradition. I am truly incensed over this callous remark.
This Fair is for EVERY citizen of the State of Texas. As such, these infractions on our sensitive CHL information effects EVERY CHL holder in the State. And the precedents that the Fair officials are presenting to us is unacceptable, and action must be taken to preserve the integrity of the CHL itself. If the Fair officials prevail in their efforts to gather sensitive information about you and I, I ask you, where will it end? At the movies? At the restaurants? At the department stores?
Of course those things are over the top. But if that precedent is left standing, I submit to you other organizations will adopt a similar "policy".
This is not to be taken lightly folks. Our rights are being compromised, and we simply cannot allow this to continue.
In my opinion, we need to stand up and be counted, and voice our concern to whom ever will listen, and at the ballot box.
I am not an original thinker, but I can extrapolate a chain of events that impact a certain segment of society negatively. And that segment is us.
Tell me....anyone....what can I do to help?

Re: A disappointing State Fair episode 10-1-09
I just fired off an email to Jon-David Wells, the host of "The Wells Report" on KLIF 570 AM in Dallas:
Good afternoon,
My name is Joe from Arlington. I would like to bring your attention to the extremely questionable practice that some(but not all) gate attendants are using at the State Fair.
That of REQUIRING a Concealed Handgun License holder, in order to gain admittance into the State fair grounds, to submit the recording of personal information. As the Texas Department of Public Safety is prohibited from divulging sensitive information, such as the State Fair security personnel is doing, this is an outrage that cannot be tolerated. The Texas State Fair Grounds is owned by the City of Dallas, and as such cannot deny entry of any licensed citizen to the State of Texas by law. But they are doing just that IF a CHL holder refuses to divulge that sensitive and private information.
As Mr. Wells is a CHL holder himself, I am quite sure he would be interested in knowing of such outrageous events taking place at the State Fair.
I have spoken to Jim briefly on the TexasCHLforum.com, which Jim is a member.
I kindly ask that you review the following thread which an ongoing discussion of this injustice inflicted on honest law abiding citizens, who happen to hold a CHL:

I also ask, that if you deem justified to open a short discourse on these events on your most popular talk show radio program "The Wells Report".
Thank you in advance for your participation in these unfolding event.
Kindest Regards,
Joe

Re: A disappointing State Fair episode 10-1-09
I agree totally! That's an excellent idea.it would make more sense for CHL holders to be able to approach a LEO and identify themselves, and allow the LEO to act as the liason between the CHL holder and the event security, not the other way around.

Re: A disappointing State Fair episode 10-1-09
I totally agree. Time to keep quiet and let the dust settle so as not to cloud the issue at hand.I'm glad some others are reporting they are being allowed in without the recording of information too. I'm also surprised you actually got responses from anyone at city hall. I got another surprise today... the DPS attorney called to explain their position. That was an interesting conversation. Until my attoney has had a chance to speak with the legal council representing the Fair, I should refrain from posting the content of todays communications.
