Here's a great 9mm website that I look at all the time. Take time to peruse it. it's chocked full of good info, including "real world prices" on 9mm's.

Re: Best inexpensive guns for new shooters on a budget
totally. A 9mm is a great place to start. And a used gun gives you the best value for your dollar spent. I purchased a used Ruger P-95 from auctionarms.com & paid $235.00 for it. It came with spare mag, instruction manual, plastic case, reloading tool, in 85%-90% condition. I used that gun to qualify with. I'd trust it with my life.Weg wrote:In my opinion, your should start with a 9mm, simply for the fact that it will be the least expensive ammo, ruling out .22 rimfire. Under $300.00 will probably confine you to used guns,if you are talking about out the door price. That being said, I found my used P89 from a private party and paid 200.00, so they can be found. If I were you , I would be looking for used glock 17's, ruger P89's, browning hi--powers, Taurus mil pro 111's ect. That's my two cents.

I'd carry a Makarov if I had one. A good intermediate round, between a .380 & 9mm. And there's a bunch on the market in excellent condition you can pick up for for a very reasonable price.Vic wrote:How about a Makarov-type pistol? Most of them are of good quality, are inexpensive, and 9x18 is somewhat better than .380.
Auctionarms.com have several. Here's an FEG you can buy now at $168.00:

Also the Ruger P series can't be beat on the price. I bought a P-95 on the above website and paid $235 for it. Came with the Ruger factory case, 2 mags, instruction manual, and a Ruger speed loader. Used it to qualify with on the CHL shooting test. Scored 248. It digested every kind of ammo I put through it and didn't have a single FTF, FTE, etc. I'd trust it with my life in a heartbeat.
I have to admit though, I tend towards the used gun market. I prefer the price structure.

Re: Best inexpensive guns for new shooters on a budget
a.r., I've had a Rossi Mod. 68 .38 Spcl. for year....since about 1984. Never shot it, and I bout it NIb. Blued w/ 3" barrell. Good workmanship and well made IMO. I would have shot it in a heartbeat, had I any ammo for it.
I traded it even steven for a Colt Govt.Mod. .380 last October, that I bought for my FIL about a year before.
IMO I think Rossi made as good a second level gun as you could get. That and the old Llama guns from Spain.
As I'm not up on all the new guns that have recently come out I can't comment on those's.
