My Hesitant Hubby and CHL

Well, folks, it seems that I've not given an update recently. Let's see.... He took the class and actually has the CHL. For the longest, he wouldn't carry. Then he bought a Springfield XD sub-compact. Other than around the house...he never carried it! "I love my XD! It shoots better than I expected and feels great"...but, as you know...it's just chunky!

THEN, back in August, when he celebrated his 71st birthday I bought him a little S&W .38. Even though he's not taken it to the range even one time, he dawns his little carry vest (which I'd gotten him a long time ago) every single day that he leaves the house and puts the little gun in the cross-draw pocket! I was stunned! At last! He carries!!

After he'd carried it for a couple of consecutive weeks, he made the statement, "Well, now that I've carried for a while, I understand what you've said about just feelin' a lot safer when you have it with you." At last! Dawn has broken in that old, hard-headed 1/2-German's brain of his!

From what I can tell, DH=Dear Husband.

Actually, he's actually signed up for the class for May 27th! So, at least something's made a difference with him. Maybe it was the fact that when we visited son in Arlington...we went to the range and he really enjoyed himself. As an FYI, at one time, he was a member of the Provost Guard (pistol team for Shriners) and truly IS SUPER accurate.

At any rate, I don't know that he'll actually carry on his person but at least he's taking the class!

You have all been most helpful! I'd say that NOW...it's up to HIM. I can only encourage him so much but, as you know, you have to make up your own mind AND...take that first step yourself.

I knew that I could count on you for some fantastic support and input. Let's consider the topic closed at this point.

Thanks!

Thanks, guys! I've printed your responses and handed 'em to him. After he read 'em, I then told him that his excuse was now GONE. . Ah, well.... He's more prone to TALK ABOUT doing things...than he is to actually DO 'EM!

He's older than that number says! If he decided to actually TAKE the class, I'll certainly post it!

Again, thanks for your help!

My HUBBY is hesitant!

Here's a "twist" for you to consider. My hubby is almost 70 and says he'd LIKE to take the CHL class — but is "afraid that he'd be laughed out of the room" because of his age. Which of you folks were over 60 when you took the course the first time?

Also, who is the oldest person on this forum? (We'll start at 59...because that's MY age).

I'd be interested to know what words you might have to share with him that might serve as encouragement to take the class.

Thanks!
