Montgomery/Harris County Day 166 and PLASTIC IN HAND
No Wally Walk Today, usually don't do that till Saturday morning. I did have to go to the bank, so my first carry was walking up to the bank door and having an armed guard open (from the inside) and hold the door for me. That was kinda cool. Let ya'll know about the wally walk saturday.

Re: February Applications
I feel like a little kid waiting for my Captn Crunch seccret decoder ring, everyday since saturday running out to the mailbox and nothing, all the other mail just goes flying into the air. Now that I think about it, that might be why my water is off. One of those other pieces of mail might have been the water bill. I think I'll spend my time waiting for the mailman today picking up all that mail thats laying out in the street.

Re: February Applications
I was starting to think that checking the DPS website and seeing;
Application Completed - license issued or certificate active
was just an urban legend. But there is was when I checked today!!

I live in Montgomery County but worked in Harris County last year, hence the five+ month waitbbuchanan wrote:quickdraw wrote:I haven't been too much of a pain. The lady seemed like she wanted to help and called DPS on my behalf. Tuesday she called me back and said DPS would be calling me. The lady from DPS called Wednesday and said my BG check came in yesterday(tuesday) and she was sending it to the printer that afternoon, and said I should expect it within two weeks. I think it will be more than two, maybe three or four, but I can see light at the end of the tunnel. Of course sometimes the light at the end of the tunnel is a train.quoheleth wrote:Quickdraw:They CALLED you? How big of a pest have you been? Finally, DPS called today and my Harris county BG check came in yesterday. They said I should get plastic in a couple weeks. I'd bet three or four weeks but she said they were putting a rush on printing.

Re: February Applications
How many February applicants are still waiting? The board seems to be getting very quiet, and lonely.

Chip
i understand that, but Ike hit almost a year ago, with the backlog , at the VERY least Harris county needs to put a few people on to get the backlog caught up. Good Lord, take a few officers off DOT (extorting money from truck drivers) duty for a few weeks. My form of protest after this is over will be that "I will NEVER spend another dime of my hard earned money in Harris County, nor will I ever take a job from anyone based in HC.

Re: February Applications
Any insights from the experienced Harris Co. applicants of what the hold up could be?
thanks guys
I am starting to think because so many people are calling their reps they seem to be getting put to the front of the line, and that leaves some of us waiting longer. I am seeing people in the April thread getiing their plastic already, and other Harris county applicants the sent theirs in a month after we did getting theirs.
I am not happy at all about waiting so long but I actually expected the wait to be about six months. A freind of mine and his daughter waited right at six months and both have "squeaky clean" records, as in never even had a traffic ticket.
I can understand getting impatient but calling your state reps at day 60 in many cases seems to be slowing down progress for people who have been waiting twice that long.
I talked with the tech processing my application on Monday and was told my BG check from Harris county( which was sent to HC in April) was not back yet. She also said she would put me "on the expidite list" and see if that will help. I asked her about giving the slow counties a certian amount of time and issuing the permit if they don't respond in a timely manner. She told me they did do that for a while and the state legislature put a stop to it.
I guess people have the right to contact their reps about delays, but I think they just may well be screwing those of us that were in line ahead of them. IMHO
End of rant
thanks guys

Re: February Applications
I've been lurking on the board for a couple months now and decided to post. I am at day 125 and it is beginning to P*** me off. Called DPS today and found out the lady doing my app is on vacation this week so I know I won't see my plastic for at least another month. One week till she gets back and if my BC from Harris county is sitting on her desk when she returns then another two to three weeks at the "printer" and another week(at least) before I see it. Most likely Harris county won't have it on her desk anyway so that means it could be two months or more. i have not called anyone yet but,I think I am going to call Ted Poe's office tomorrow, I know he is on the federal level but with his standing in Harris county I am guessing he would be able to steer me in the direction of the folks in Harris county causing the delays. This is getting out of hand when I'm seeing people on here that sent their stuff in 8 weeks after us February applicants getting their permits already.
