Re: Grab a Gun Rock Island GI 1911 $289.99 Range Report

Comes with one magazine that functions well, a heavy contoured pouch and the typical gun lock. The magazine release is a little stiff but loosed some with use. Had two FTF - one with Winchester White Box 230 gr JHP and one with the HSM Police FMJ. Trigger pull is crisp and with my Wheeler manual scale measures 5lb 2oz and with my digital scale 4lb 15oz. The gun had a lot of oil on it and I didn't have any way to clean it except the pouch it came in. Grips are black rubber offering a secure gripping surface, even with the oily metal. The back strap is grooved with plain front. I had no issues with hammer bite but I don't have overly large or fat hands. Seems to shoot a little left and low hold in the center of the 3" green stick ons. My eyesight suffers from a fresnel lens effect due to a scammer ophthalmologist selling me on Re-stor inter ocular implants so he could make several thousand more from me. My sight picture is triple vision, but I have learned to get lined up if there's enough contrast offered by the target. (I cannot shoot black bulls eyed targets.)
I have no complaints for the pistol, especially at a price of $289.99.

Re: Grab a Gun Rock Island GI 1911 $289.99

I ordered one Jan 29 and it's arriving Monday at my FFL. My FFL is a gun range also and offers free range time with transfers, so I'll try to do a short review if they are not too busy. I only have a couple of styles of .45 ammo to test. Total G a G cost was $336 and change with only $14.99 shipping, plus tax and I added insurance for for 6 bucks.

Paul Harrell's review from 2020 is the more comprehensive reviews I've come across. He touches on issues that most reviews don't gives a comparison to Colt.

Still so much to learn from Paul Harrell. I had no idea about the firing pin block, so checked my two 1911's, one Sig Emporer and one Tisas GI. Only the Sig had the firing pin block.
I couldn't find a Harrell video on the Tisas 1911, which is often compared to and reviewed with the Rock Island, but Hickock 45 did one. He compares the Tiasa to military issue 1911's. He mentioned the lack of a hammer block in comparison to some Colt models without it. Basically saying the Tisas is patterned after those pistols, particularly the 70 series Colts, which occurs at the 6:28 mark on his video. He got hammer bite from the Tisas, but he has very large hands, though with the two military pistols it wasn't a problem.
Interestingly Tisas has issued a recall on several of their 1911 Models for the possibility of the hammer following the slide and I assume the possibility of a discharge. I don't know if the problem lies with the sear design or machining flaw, but I would think it's relevant to that. I'm still debating whether to buy the RI, but I'm limited of my spending and have a couple of use guns on auctions I'm considering instead.

Grab a Gun Rock Island GI 1911 $289.99

Rock Island Armory M1911-A1 GI .45 ACP 5" Barrel 8-Rounds $289.99

I don't own a Rock Island brand 1911, but I have a Charles Daly both made by Armscor. Mine is reliable and shoots well. I know Paul Harrell did a review of the RI and maybe Hickok 45. Seems like a good buy for anyone wanting to enter the 1911 fan club without much outlay. I seem to recall their shipping is reasonable. I'm thinking of adding this one to my collection.
Edited to add: I posted a link to Paul Harrell's review. Worth watching in my opinion if you're interested in the RI 1911.
