What is commonly called duct tape was actually called Duck tape in WWII when it was developed. It used cotton ducking material as a backing and was developed by a woman who forwarded her suggestion to President Roosevelt to use it to seal ammunition boxes. He forwarded it to the War Department and Johnson and Johnson developed it for use. The first use of duck tape was by a WOMAN, Vesta Stoudt It shed water like a duck, which also encouraged GI's and Sailors to call it duck tape. I'm sure she was a redneck, though. A company later copyrighted the Duck Tape name.allisji wrote:now I'd call that the Mother Of All Tapes.
