As it ships, it's a "handgun." I guess because the stock stock is narrow enough to put your hand around. What length is the barrel? If the barrel length is less than 16" then you should know definitively whether it classifies as a handgun or a short barreled rifle. If an SBR then it would be regulated under the National Firearms Act and you wouldn't be allowed to obtain it without going through the BATFE to purchase an NFA tax stamp for $200.
if open carried anywhere other than on your own ranch, I would consider it as an AGD*.
