Re: First TIme Out

Congratz. Since we live in the same town, I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for someone with a bulge at 4 oclock. I'll be the guy with the bulge at 3 oclock. I Carry at 2 oclock but please don't look for the bulge ;-) don't worry the shirt tugging will diminish as you feel more comfort...

Re: maverick 88?

Thanks for ya'lls help. I think I'm going with the 870 express. Sticking with the tried and true. It's $279 @ academy with a $30 rebate from remmington. So $250 isn't too bad.

Re: IWB Carry Position

i use the 2 o' clock from comp-tac. appendix carry. lets me sit or stand, easy to conceal and comfortable. i've been putting on a few pounds lately and it's becoming less comfortable though. :grumble

Re: Knife sharpening.

I've collected quite a few and as far as steel, German Solingen steel such as Eye Brand, Puma, Boker, Hen & Rooster are the ones that I have the best luck staying sharp. The best ones I have are Eye Brand with Solingen carbon steel. For hunting knives look at Puma. Especially the white hunter. ...

Re: Knife sharpening.

440c completly slipped my mind. yes it is superior to AUS8 in every way. has a higher rock hardness. i think it's 58-60 with higher levels of carbon. the carbon content is a direct relation to sharpening ability and the chromium is hardness. unless you spend bookoo bucks on some of the high end blad...

Re: Knife sharpening.

just like it almost everything else there is no "best" steel. it all depends on what you want to accomplish and how much upkeep you want to do. but basically the more carbon content in the blade the longer the blade will stay sharp but conversly it will rust if not cared for properly. ther...

Re: Knife sharpening.

also, i use something similar to the block sharpener for serrated blades. does a great job. those cross sharpeners are great but just realize their limitations. they have a set angle. so while they are fine for doing say pocket knives; a fillet knife or on the other end, a machette have different an...

Re: Knife sharpening.

I just taught myself using the instructions with the kit and using an old/cheap knife. I'm by no means an expert at it in any way. Sounds like Rescue1 would be a great resource. Exactly what i did. if you happen by gander mountain in college station on sat you will see my father in law setup there ...

Re: Knife sharpening.

i actually sharpen knives as a hobby/side money, if you were closer i'd run it through for you. i use a grider with special wheels. you can get a kit from some of the knife makers magazines. once you figure it out it just takes practice. if i'm just maintaining my blade then it takes longer for the ...
