Mr. Longley, That was a well worried letter and I just may use parts of it in some more emails I am about to send out.
I emailed the NRA, TSRA, State Rep Laubenberg, Ag Comm and I have not recieved a response from any of them, and they have had three full business days to respond. I wonder if they are all just waiting until the fair is over for the year, then they can respond that they didn't have time, or just ignore it all together.
Seems more and more these folks that are supposed to represent our interests will not act if it does not benefit them finacially, or move them ahead politically.
I hope I am wrong, however I would of thought that at the very least I would of got a response from them, indicating they would look into it. If these folks don't take some reasonable action, they will not be getting my support. I hope we all remember who helps and does their job and who doesn't.
I don't think we need any additional laws or legislation. From the way I understand things, the fair is at the very least skirting the law if not down right running over it. Not to mention, it is borderline harrassment. We just need someone that holds some authority to call them on it and force them to comply. If they don't they need to be held legally or at the very least civily liable.
I would like to know how others are doing with contacting those that should help. Let it be known so we will know who we should or should not support.

Re: A disappointing State Fair episode 10-1-09
I just sent an email off to the State Fair, State Rep Laubenberg, State Ag Comm Staples, TSRA, and NRA.
I wonder did oprah's security detail have to give up their information, in case they lose thier pistols.
I know the Ag Comm, might at first glance sound a little different, however consider that the fair is majoir agriculture event with interests of the Southwest Diary Farmers and Texas Beef Council.
I don't hold a lot of hope that the TSRA and the NRA will do much. It seems that these days they are more about collecting money then anything else. I really don't like saying that as they have done great things in the past, and maybe they will return to their roots.
We will see if anything comes out of the efforts of so many.

Re: A disappointing State Fair episode 10-1-09
The worst thing is that they get away with violating the privacy and rights of CHL Holders and once they get away with it, some other entity will decide they can get away with it also, and slowly over time rights begin to disappear. It is the old idea of taking something away or changing something so slowly that people get used to or accepting of something and when they realize it is gone, it is too late.
To me this a voilation of privacy and the way I read the laws that relate, it seems it is a voilation of the law. I don't see how you can make the collection of information a requirement for entry to a place a person has a right to be. Even if this was a different situation and you were to collect information on anything it would seem it would have to be across the board on everyone or none at all.
I will be watching this issue and how elected officials and vendors respond. My support will go to those that support the rights and privacy of law abiding citizens.
Regardless of wether you have a license or not, this seems to be a voilation of individual rights and privacy.
