I fixed the broken photos. They shouldn't go down again since I'm hosting them through my blog and not a free image hosting site. Enjoy!C-dub wrote:Bump

Re: Finally Did My Wally Walk
hpcatx - Thanks for the bump! I had almost forgotten about this. Just to drive home the point that you can wear whatever you want and no one will notice you're carrying...I wore the costume to a party that night and no one knew. I wear my fanny pack often and don't get a second glance from anyone. I now carry an (almost) full-size 1911 on my hip as my main carry, and most of my friends NEVER KNOW IT'S THERE. There are two friends who pat me down looking for it since they know I carry, but they don't count.
Jumping Frog - Indeed, but I like to speak softly and carry a boom stick. And I don't intend harm on the wicked...though it's gonna happen if they make bad decisions. Kinda in the spirit of Batman?

oops.
but glad you passed your wally walk. nice costume by the way. did you make it? you made the batman fanny pack holster, right? if so, then good job.
cute costume,
Aw, man! Bad luck for you. Thanks, and I did indeed make my whole costume. I took my carry pack and BatGirl-ified it!

Re: Finally Did My Wally Walk
I know of two other people in my college classes who just qualified...I'm excited! As a joint effort, my husband and I educated my sister's boyfriend and his brother about CHLs. They both qualified last month and should have their licenses soon. My sister's boyfriend had his prints rejected so his will be delayed a bit...he shouldn't have done the ink!Oldgringo wrote:You go, girl! Perhaps others will follow your lead and earn their CHL?

Re: Finally Did My Wally Walk
Well, that was the point. I wanted to make a costume that allowed me to conceal as part of my costume. I think I succeeded, haha! I encountered a coworker while out, and he asked if I had just come from a party. I said, "No, it's more of a test run," and left it at that.austinrealtor wrote:Definitely the best Wally Walk photos I've seen. Well done. And to me the fanny pack totally just looks like part of your overall costume. Well done!
And as for having my finger on the trigger of that banana...it wasn't very curved but if you look closely my finger is pressed against the side of the banana, not the trigger. I know better than that!!

Re: Finally Did My Wally Walk
I think it helped that I wasn't wearing my glasses, so I couldn't see the few funny looks I got. Don't worry, I'm not blind without my glasses...just a little fuzzy at long distances. If I can't see clearly, it's probably too far for a good self-defense shot anyway, so I didn't feel too badly about not wearing the glasses.
It feels good to have gotten the walk out of the way, and in such style at the same time!
Wish I could have carried my 1911 but I STILL haven't had to opportunity to go to the range to shoot it, and I don't want to carry it until I'm used to it. *sigh* Guess I'll be waiting another month or so until time and money is a little more abundant.

Finally Did My Wally Walk
So, I have to ask one question: Am I doing it right?
I mean, that WAS a Batman (er...BatGirl!) license that I got in the mail, right? (You may want to reference this thread: http://texaschlforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=83&t=38406)
Okay, here's the obligatory banana shot. I should carry one of these on my utility belt.
No one really looked at me even though I was packing AND dressed as a superhero. Plus my husband was following me around with our big honking camera...we had to have looked odd, even at Wal-mart.
I was carrying my S&W Model 60 in that fanny pack, and my husband was carrying his S&W 581 in HIS fanny pack. All in all, a good Wally Walk. McDonald's was closed so I did not get to partake of that particular portion of the Walk, but that's fine by me because even the thought of Mickey D's makes me ill. Also, it was dark so we got no photos of me putting my purchase in the trunk while facing out. Still...it was fun!
