Re: Grab Your Towel, and Don't Panic

Just saw this and thought about something funny. I always carry a bunch of "unnecessary" things in my car. It drives my neat and tidy husband crazy because, to him, it's clutter. Among other things, I like to keep a sweatshirt in the car in the event that the weather changes and I need something warmer. After I got my CHL I used my sweatshirt just like you guys use your towels. I could hide things with it, transport my gun to the trunk or into a building without arousing suspicion, and it was also a backup cover garment if needed.

My husband took the sweatshirt out of the car last spring when we made a road trip to Lubbock to look at housing. I forgot about it, never replaced it, and I haven't needed to disarm in my car since then because I graduated. I forgot about my trusty sweatshirt until last week when I really needed it but didn't have it! I had to disarm to bring my husband something he forgot, and since he IS still in school I couldn't carry on campus. The only open visitor spot was right next to a car with someone sitting in it. I didn't feel comfortable disarming where someone could easily look over and see me, so I ended up driving around the back of a residence hall, parked at the back of the lot, and disarmed there. I grumbled and complained about it to my husband and told him not to touch my sweatshirt again.

Of course, if campus carry was legal then I wouldn't have needed to disarm... but the sweatshirt still comes in handy regardless!

Here's to towels (or sweatshirts), the everyday essentials to CHL holders!
