When I'm practicing for quals, I shoot 50 rounds at 15 yards, too. I figure if I can pass (90%) with all rounds at 15 yards, the actual test should be a slam dunk. After all, the rounds at 3 and 7 yards (in the actual test) should all be 5-pointers.mommagamber wrote:Went out with the new Ruger and the borrowed S&W and ran 50 rounds through each one at 15 yrds to see which one I do better with. The Ruger won by 41 points. The Sights on the S&W need to be adjusted.

Ok, sorry, I didn't know.Crossfire wrote:Marty doesn't work on Rugers for other people. Just Glocks. And it's not like that gun needed a lot of help, anyways. Just a little smoothing out. Her's will probably be just fine, right out of the box.sjfcontrol wrote:Congratulations on your new acquisition! Now you need to get it to Marty for a trigger-job!
So, great choice, mamagamber! We wish you the best of luck with it!

Re: Anybody else in the June 18-22 class?
Do you need to retake both parts of the test, or only the revolver?

Mommagamber, that was the revolver I was talking about (in the PM) with the tricked-out trigger!Crossfire wrote:[
You own both a Chiappa Rhino and a Mateba Autorevolver? Those are two of the craziest revolvers ever made! You have something against plain old, normal, everyday revolvers?
Really, I wish you were closer to DFW. I have a Ruger GP100 that has been to more instructor schools than I have, and no one has ever failed to qualify with it. It has a great trigger, and is well balanced. This is what you need to be looking for. Something tried and true and easy on the hands.
Good luck to you! You can do it.

Re: Anybody else in the June 18-22 class?
Most students dont qualify with revolvers at all. Are you a CHL instructor?emcee rib wrote:I have two quick comments.sjfcontrol wrote:Oh, man! You didn't fail the test, your gun failed you. Borrow a revolver with the longest barrel you can find. That alone will likely fix the problem!
1. If the gun worked the same as it did last week and the week before that, it's not the gun that failed.
2. I know many students who scored more than 90% the first time so I worry if an instructor can't.

Re: Anybody else in the June 18-22 class?
Yes, you made perfect sense. I understand completely. Thanks for the explanation. Get some sleep.mommagamber wrote:In single action it is a very light trigger pull it is double action that is the hard pull. Once you've shot that first round in double then the recoil takes over. SO every time I had to reload then the first shot would have to be double action or cock then single action.sjfcontrol wrote:Really? I'm surprised! Why would it need a heavy pull if the recoil cocked the hammer and turned the cylinder? If you're going to have a heavy pull, you might as well go double action.mommagamber wrote:That would be nice. My hang up on it is that in double action it has such a hard trigger pull. Gonna try to practice with cocking and shooting in my allotted time.
I hope I am making sense I am so emotionally and physically spent tonight I can't think straight.

Let us know if they allow it.

Oh, man! You didn't fail the test, your gun failed you. Borrow a revolver with the longest barrel you can find. That alone will likely fix the problem!mommagamber wrote:I shot double action mostly because I cannot cock that revolver. I am going to throw the snub nosed Chiappa Rhino in the Trash and go for a longer gun. Anybody wanna buy a Rhino?sjfcontrol wrote:I have to ask, did you shoot single, or double action?
When I took the test, they "suggested" that the revolvers be shot double action, but it wasn't a requirement. And there is enough time allowed to shoot single action (no matter what they say), and be more accurate.
