Re: Handcuffs?

I tend to agree with the majority here about trying to put handcuffs on the BG, but I'll share a little here.

I was born with no left hand, but in the 1970s appllied to work for a Police Dept in a city near Houston (Before Americans with Disabilities Act, they just had a sign on the front desk "If you're handicapped, don't apply" ..... so, I did, because I didn't consider myself handicapped since I had a .400 batting average and could do anything a 2-hander could, plus get my left stub into places they can't to wash drinking glasses they couldn't etc.

Anyway, they didn't want to hire me even though I did better on the Civil Service exam, did better on the obstacle course etc etc etc than the other applicants.

So, they took me in a room with their martial arts instructor, turned on a tape recorder, asked if I was familiar with handcuffs, and I replied no, then said handcuff that guy over there (the martial arts instuctor) He resisted .... Well, I got him cuffed, double locked the cuffs, and he only bled a little, (just pinched a little skin in the hinge) but they gave him the rest of the day off, and said that's why we can't hire you, excessive force made him bleed.

Handcuffs can be a very effective weapon the BG can use against you too, especially if you can only get one on him.

For many many years I did some gunsmithing etc for the local Dept, was freinds with all of them, and I did have cuffs at my house and carry cuffs in the car in case they needed an extra pair, but I wouldn't put them on anyone by myself, even though NOW I know how to better .... body mechanics. which way their elbow bends when I reach through and bend heir elbow for them, which could not be done by reaching around ... etc etc etc.

So Still, I have a pair at the house, and a pair in my car, but I'd only offer them to LEO, not use them myself.

That's just me.
