Re: Concealing at Work - Waitressing

I think laketex meant their shooting skills and/or firearm safety practices weren't the best.
Possibly so ... I just get told I look scary sometimes with my big beard, I just ask which they prefer, bearded and scary with my face all covered up, or shaved and so ugly they get scared away anyway "rlol"

However, it's great to see that we have more informed, carrying, chl holders here in Grayson county. Nearly everybody I know that has their chl hardly ever carries, and I do not understand that. However, the folks that were in my class at Red River for renewals were so scary that I hope they DON'T carry! Beautiful STI too. I deeply regret the day I sold my colt CCO.

Most bad guys prey on the weaker/less able to defend/less aware.

So, sometimes looking "scary" is a prevantative measure to being robbed ... or even confronted by a bad guy in the first place.

Similar philosophy as: When you see a bear or lion, make yourself look bigger ... so hopefully it is a little less likely to attack you and those around you.

Saves effort trying to de-escalate a situation after a confrontation already occurred, if it can be avoided to begin with.

Scary-lookin' for your and my safety ;-)

IME, there are certain jobs that potential employers just don't care why you got fired from. (Assuming you're not applying for a similar job.) Food service and convenience stores are pretty high on that list.
Similarly with fast food restaurant cooks I think, and Certified Nursing Assistants and R.N.s since thre's a shortage..

cbunt1 wrote:Well, I'm the wrong person to be replying and commenting here, cuz I'm male. And yes, we're built differently -- Trying to help my mother through the woes of on-body packin' has taught me that...Haven't been able to find a holster she will tolerate (Doesn't want to wear a belt--'specially a gun belt, and doesn't really like IWB--till she tried one of my better holsters. But I digress...)

But, as for jeans and a polo shirt, I comfortably and frequently carry a commander frame 1911 in an MTAC holster, IWB--wearing bluejeans and a polo, or the proverbial "white shirt and tie". A polo one size larger than normal, tucked, and slightly "sloppy" at the waist does quite nicely.

I think the CTAC and Supertuck models are essentially the same--but they will allow you to adjust the cant of the gun to the point it's almost absurd...which should help with both printing and poking.

IWB does take a little getting used to, but if you're determined, (and it sounds like you are) then you can do it.
CTAC and Supertuck models are essentially the same in that they are both IWB kydex/Leather hybrids. BUT, there are differences in them ...

Each kydex/Leather hybrid has differences ... for example:
On some, like Comfort Carry for example, ... retention/tightness is adjustable as screws are used to fasten kydex to the leather, whereas on Kholster kydex is rivited to leather instead of using screws/bolts.

(A guy told me once, "Holsters are like noses, you gotta pick your own and not let a freind pick yours"):
Here are some you can consider when shopping:

Take a look at Tucker Gunleather "Silent Thunder" (leather lining inside the kydex too for a more silent draw)

Tucker Gunleather "The Answer" (Lining on the back of the leather next to the body, and you can order leather lining inside the kydex)

Concealed Technology/Rob Durham "Comfort Carry" Smooth Horsehide next to skin, smooth leather next to gun, thicker/stiffer leather portion since 2 pices of leather/horsehide are laminated)

Comp-Tac (Partially lined next to the body, several types of clips available (Velcro/C-Clips/normal Belt clips etc)

Crossbreed (rough leather or rough horsehide next to your body)

Kholster (Opposite of Crossbreed in that comfortable smooth leather next to skin, but rough leather next to gun, Better belt clips should be used IMHO)

Re: Concealing at Work - Waitressing

By the way, the Wilderness safepacker comes in different sizes ... smaller ones for smaller pistols (which is a good idea) ... and the flap has an additional pocket in it for cosmetics or whatever

The strap on front is where I keep my ballpoint pens clipped ...
Scroll to the bottom of their page on the website for External dimensions of each ...

I'm thinking of getting another (5-1/2" X 6") for my laser gripped NAA Guardian .380 (with the 10 round magazines) (IF it fits)

Honestly, the 7-3/8" X 9-1/4" is a bit big for waitressing in a crowded restaurant.

Re: Concealing at Work - Waitressing

Get >>> BOYFREIND JEANS ...... (looser fit and in style)

You could try various brands of "Belly Bands" I have several, quality varies.

I suppose you could get Thunderwear, and just ignore the "fly"
or these for ladies

You could try SHOULDER holsters ...

I've seen garter holsters (but a Google search was too risque so I quit looking)
You can GOOGLE womens or ladies "thigh holster" and may get much better results than I got for "garter holster" They could work for skirts.... but I'm not searching those again ...

and

Depending how tight the Polo shirt is ...
RUGER LCP BRA MOUNT HOLSTER MADE BY DISCREET CARRY USA
Image

Google Women's Concealed holster or Ladies Concealed Holster for other options

(P.S. This is not an endorsement of anything above... no idea how good they are ... I'm a guy, just trying to help with ideas)

Of course ... There is always a Fanny Pack specially made to be a holster or ...

I carry a full-sized pistol and spare mag in a WILDERNESS SAFEPACKER on my belt http://store.thewilderness.com/index.ph ... 3oghd65ve7" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Now that I tink about it ... you ladies have more options than we men people have ... though they did have "man bras" on TV, they won't be on my Christmas wish list....won't say more ... sticking with the daughter rule ...
