Re: ammo on sale

HEY my favorite price comparison site went away?
http://www.ammoengine.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The DreamHost customer who owns ammoengine.com has not yet uploaded their website or has chosen to leave this holding page active.
GUess I'll look for another
https://www.google.com/search?q=ammo+pr ... =firefox-a" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Found

http://ammoseek.com/view.now/faq.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

http://gun-deals.com/ammo" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

http://www.ammonow.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
AmmoNow visits ammunition sales websites and records their ammunition prices. It then sorts those prices and lists them here so you can see the best deals. No ammunition is actually sold from this site.

Part of my research has informed me that I need to get periodic range time in for both myself and my weapon. That being said, I have heard about range ammo and SD ammo. What is the
difference? Is there a different grain count or something? FMJ vs. hollowpoint? Etc...
Generally Self Defense Ammo is like hollowpoints/JHP ... range/practice ammo is cheaper Full metal jacket FMJ

You should
1) practice SOME with the actual self-defense ammo to be sure that brand/type actually functions in your particular gun reliably
2) if you get "cheaper practice/range ammo" then get some which is approximately the same bullet weight, in grains and power (like non +P or +P etc ... practice with something similar to what you will actually carry

Practicing with something of similar weight and power is because some recoil more or less ... if you practice with lighter grain bullets, then use a Self Defense round of a heavy grain in an emergency, you don't want the recoil to "surprise" you and take longer to acquire a second follow up sight picture.

Now, to get on the topic of ammo on sale
... here's a neat chart you can sort by bullet type and grain and price by first picking your caliber, then sort by ... then find the cheapest of that grain / type
use both "sort by" ... and "group by"

JRG wrote:Well, I'm glad some of you are scoring some .380 ammo. The wife and I are on an extended RVing trip to the south and west. I have made it my mission to check as many Walmarts and Academy stores as I can every place we go. So far, I've struck out at the Walmarts in Woodville, Livingston, Victoria, Kingsville, McAllen, and also Mission. Struck out at Academy stores in Victoria, McAllen, and Weslaco.

I thought I'd find some in one of those stores. We head to the San Antonio area Wednesday and then on to west Texas next Monday. I shall continue my search.

If you go through Brenham,

ammunitiontogo.com address is
Ammunition To Go , 6360 FM 50 , Brenham Tx. 77833
Ammunition To Go is open:
Mon. - Thurs.: 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. CST.

Not as cheap as cheaperthandirt in Fort Worth, but they do have "some" .380 there now and it's MUCH chaper than Ammobank who wan'ts $64 bucks for 50 rounds of Gold dot to ammunitiontogo's 39 bucks.

Here's how I shop ...

Re: ammo on sale

Ditto.

Yesterday I got (delivered yesterday from an online store)
Hydroshoks
Gold Dot
DPX (though they seem to hang in my magazine, a little long for .380)
Buffalo Bore 100 grain +P Flat Nosed
and the two I'll actually carry ...
MagTech Guardian Gold 85 grain +P JHP
Buffalo Bore 90 grain +P JHP

Tried the NEW DPX 80 grain +P JHP in my NAA Gaurdian .380 and other .380s too .... seems to be a hair longer and my magazines like it less, hangs in the magazine of the NAA Gaurdian .380 and other single stag mags too

I'll try it in a doublestack gun like Taurus PT-58, but I won't be buying any more DPX .380

Re: ammo on sale

Yeah, cheaperthandirt and lots of places are cheaper, but they all said "out of stock"

I actually ran across the .380 there by accident while looking for .32 which I haven't found at any price in a year, My True Value hardware store has .380 hydroshoks for $16. a box ..... but looks like times have changed since all that 1980s/1990s ammo I had which was 6 to 8 bucks a box. At one point last year my local pawn shop owner was offerring to buy a round, ONE ROUND of .32 hollowpoint from me for $5.00, but I didn't have one to spare..... sheesh.

And NO Social Security Cost of Living Increase this year for the first time in 35 years or so because of NO INFLATION ????????? I guess we are all just imagining higher prices..... If cigarettes ever get up to costing a dollar a pack, I'll quit before the government taxes. . ..... I miss 24 cent a gallon gasoline before the government taxes. .... I guess the billions in Title X and Medicaid and Grants to Planned Parenthood the Government gives them with our tax money is worth it though. Planned Parenthood intends to open a six-story, 78,000 square-foot abortion facility in Houston, Texas, so they need the money. :mad5 :eek6 :mad5

Re: ammo on sale

I actually only accidently noticed they sold ammo, at my True Value Hardware Store ... and they get it in weekly, ... Texas Hill Country near Marble Falls Texas, north of Austin.

I'd call your local hardware stores, or ones just outside your city and ask .... especially if they sell deer feeders/deer corn, salt, etc

Of course all my local gun stores/pawn shops/gun ranges etc have no .380 because that's where everyone "normally" goes to buy ammo.

That's like during a hurricane, when:
No grocery store has batteries, but all Radio Shacks do, no one thinks to go there?
No grocery stores have masking tape, but all paint stores do, no one thinks to go there?

Yes, gun stores and Academy and Wal-Mart etc will sell out fast, but look at other places which might carry ammo.

Call the TrueValue Hardware stores first ... but be imaginative about who else may sell ammo (perhaps feed stores?)

Re: ammo on sale

I get .380 Federal Hydroshocks, (along with other calibers) at my local True Value hardware store ... the .380 only stays on the shelves 3 or 4 days though. about $16.00 per box

I can't find .32 acp hollowpoints though. Specifically New Winchester Silvertips, Hornady 60 grain SJH/XTP, Speer Gold Dot, or Federal Hydra Shoks.
