Wow, i was at the edge of my seat and my heart pumping as I read!what a relive to know that you are ok.
I keep a CZ-82 9x18 Mak that i picked up for $150 in ea of my vehicles for that same reason.
My wife has yet to receive her plastic and sometimes the seat-belt blocks my holster. The CZ is within easy reach and with a 12rd capacity I should be able to reach my .40 cal before emptying the CZ.
