Guys,
I am a CHL instructor. Been in it since it first started.
I am not really for open carry. But at the same time I'm for Vermont carry. That is, no CHL required to carry a concealed weapon. Yes I know in Vermont it can be unconcealed, but I still feel it needs to be out of sight. As long as you can legaly own a handgun, I think you are legal to carry it. I teach the classes cause I believe in our 2nd amendment rights and being able to protect ourselves as well as others. I just think the arms should be out of sight.

Re: Open Carry In The News
Herb,
It's not about gun control. Citizens do not use snach resistant holsters like LEOs do. If you would go to New Mexico you will see very few use the open carry law. They have found, as I did, you have to be careful as to if your gunside is near someone. Just way to easy. And thus, few pack their guns openly.
I'd be happy if we had Vermont carry, but concealed. If you just ask people, you will find that 'out of sight, out of mind' is very true. Just as any time a LEO comes into an establishment were you are, the first thing most people do is look at the gun! And if the person is a complete stranger, it gets many people nervious.
I suggest you go to a state that has real open carry (there are not many, unlike the news paper) and see just how often this is done. And pack your roscoe that way for a while. I bet you see things a bit differently.

Re: Open Carry In The News
Open carry has several faults.
1) The wearer, by dispalying the firearm, gives any would-be gun snacher the heads up. This to me is the greatist danger. Yes I know in a few other states like New Mexico and Arizona and Vermont, they do have that law, but few use it. I've been in New Mexico and I did try to pack the gun open. I sure felt naked! In Vermont I didn't show the gun (carried it everywhere, but never displayed it.)
2) A LEO would have to do lots of asking of those who display guns if they are LEGAL. I.E. non-fellons, no restraining orders, CHL, etc... every time they turn around.
3) The wearer would be making lots of people nervious. People who while non-gun people, were not anti-gun. This is a good way to start seeing 30.06 signs pop up.
I just feel open carry is for the woods, no the street. Right to carry? Yes, but not flash it in peoples faces.
