OK, I got the thing back from Laser Max. They not just rebuilt it but replaced it(or thats whats it looks like to me). I also got a new take down lever with activition switch plus a set of batteries for it. I tried the thing and lit lights and can seen over 20 yards away. Also the beam is very focused and it is a pulsing beam. I am told that pulsing is better since it is easier to pickup.

So what I have a new laser/recoil spring/guide rod assembly with 2 takedown activition switches and 3 sets of batteries.

I am at $200 firm. Shipped to you on my dime.

It turned out that the thing would not show on anything past about 10 yards and the beam wasn't as focused as it should be. So I called LaserMax and got a RMA # to send it back. I am just waiting right now to see what the diagnosis is. I will post here when I find out, it might still be for sale. I just don't know right now.

I just got off the phone with LaserMax and it will be rebuilt at no cost to me. So I should have the thing back by the first of next week. Check with me then If still for sale.

A 7-inch group at 7 yards is the reult of one of two things.
One, the laser is such a shot-to-shot variable that POI is within +/- 3.5 inches at 7 yards, (which is atrocious), or;
Two, that 7-8 inch grouping is indicative of your shooting, which is atrocious.

That is why I tried to ask (in a tactful way) how the POI of the laser compared with your use of the same gun with iron sights.

If you shoot the same with irons as you do with the laser, I'd be tempted to buy it and try it. You could use the money for ammo and range time.

If you shoot 1" groups at 7 yards with irons and 7" groups at the same distance with the laser, it would be reasonable to conclude that the LaserMax is poorly designed or executed.

Now, would you like to try again?

I am sorry if you think I was "copping a Attitude" I simply did not understand your question. I am a fairly new shooter, having only started about a year ago. I also know that I am a noob on this forum, but I am here to learn. I am sorry my shooting does not meet your standards, but I did qualify for my CHL shooting a 233 out of 250. I and my wife are lots better than when we first started back in September of '09, and yes I understand that I need more practice. I get to the range as often as I can which is 2 to 3 times a month.

As far as my shooting I shot a 2-3 inch group without a rest at 3 yards with my XD40SC with or with or without the laser. I still shot a 7" or less group with no rest at 7 yards with or without the laser. That is exactly why I am selling it, it does not seem to help me. I need to work on other things besides using the laser. OK I admit I probably should have tried shooting from a rest, but if you have to use your weapon in defensive situation you won't be shooting from a rest.

Again I am apologize if you feel I came across with attitude that was not my intention in the beginning. But now I feel you are coming across with one. Being critical of my explanation when I really did not understand what you wanted? Being critical of my shooting ability instead of offering suggestions. Using the public forum instead PM for this critism. And Yes I am coming across with a ATTITUDE now!!

I am used to the Crimson Trace laser, which is very "repeatable" and adjustable as well. But the wife owns a mini-XD9 and I wouldn't mind putting this under the tree in December...

I believe I answered your post with my answer above. For myself there was no difference with iron sights or the laser. I did find my self not really sighting at all with laser just pointing. Makes for faster shots. The bullet went where the laser pointed.

I am sorry, I don't understand your question about how well regulated it is? You are correct there are no adjustments. This assembly takes the place of the guide rod/captive recoil spring assembly.
If you are refering to where the shot goes in relation to where the laser points? Then shot would be a 1/2" higher than where the laser points because that is approxiamately the center to center distance of the laser to the barrel. Of course the whole assembly moves each time the gun is fired. Does it effect accuracy? Maybe, but I would hate to have to live on the difference. I still shot about 2 to 3 inch group at 3 yards, and about a 7 to 8 inch group 7 yards. I don't do as well at 15 yards but I can get on the paper.

OK, I have it advertised on a couple of other boards. I will let you know if it sells.

The take down lever get replaced also and it has ambi switch that you push to turn on. Push either way on, center off. Never had a problem with my Comp-Tac Minotaur holster turning it on.

Want to sell LaserMax Guide Rod Laser for Springfield XD9/40 Sub Compact 3". Used, but works good. This is a simple drop-in replacement for the the standard guide rod/spring assembly. I had it on a .40, but it will work with either 9 mm or .40.
