I've never seen a copy of the written test floating around. It has 40 questions, and 35 of the are so easy you could probably pass now.
Also was wondering is there a newbie cheat sheet for various acronyms and terms frequently used around here, ...
Not that I know of. This is the best we have: http://www.texasshooting.com/TexasCHL_F ... php?t=3947

Google is very helpful with that kind of thing. If you type "define:word" it will give you definitions from various online dictionaries.

Welcome to the forum.

On the application, they really want to know which counties you lived in. I would say to write down whatever was on your driver license or used as your mailing address. You need to put the month and year that you moved in and out.

For the shooting proficiency test, you just need to know how to load and handle your pistol and shoot accurately from a standing position (or sitting if you use a wheelchair) out to 15 yards.

I would recommend getting a copy of the booklet from http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/ftp/forms/ls-16.pdf and reading it until you feel confident you understand it.

Other than that, read posts on this forum. It looks like there's a "trick" question on the revised test that you need to be aware of.
