What ever happened to watching each others back in this country???
I agree with the sentiment, but I think the issue is that Good Samaritan laws don't cover us for shooting the BG to save someone's life or possessions. It's quite unfortunate.
Essentially, you could shoot the BG, but your bullet could hit an innocent person. You could be held liable for that person's injury or death.

Mars had a question about this the other night while we were watching the news. He questioned how it was that the black burglars had Spanish surnames and were from the Carribbean.

Understand that, during the 1600s-1800s, the African slave trade was rampant in in the Carribbean as well as the U.S. After obtaining freedom, former slaves either intermarried or simply took on the family names of their former captors, as was common here.
The two home burglars are likely decendants of both Spanish and African immigrants.
Having taught African-American/black students of Spanish ancestry, I can tell you that most identify themselves as primarily black.

I believe Quanel X is upset because the home burglars were, in his opinion, black. I'm doubtful that he would be defending their honor if they weren't. IMO, that's racism.

Until then, I'm praying for the guy...
There was a few seconds on the 911 tape where he alluded to the BGs advancing toward him.

His 911 call: Wow. This guy had a serious case of diarrhea of the mouth. After listening to the entire thing, I can't help but wonder if this older fellow didn't talk himself into murder or negligent homicide charges.

If it weren't for his mouth, I think his age would have worked in his favor. Stevie, you have an excellent point about the fact that you, as a 43-year-old man, would be judged more harshly than a 70-year-old man. It may not be completely fair, but a jury would look upon a senior citizen differently than they would look upon a typical 43-year-old man. (I have no way of knowing if you're typical, but I think you get my point.)

I can't help but think that much of this may come down to what the homeowner says. Many here assume that the homeowner will come to this man's defense. For his sake, I hope so. However, people will surprise you. They may likely start wailing to the media that no possession of their's was worth these human lives, no matter how bad the character.

Given the information that I have, I don't think I could convict the guy if I were on the jury; however, there are people that would do it in a heartbeat. His discussion with the 911 operator doesn't help him.

Right now he needs a crafty lawyer and a praying mother.

Like many here, I will be interested to learn the outcome of this.

I think the fact that he's 70-years-old works in his favor.
