I have to tell a lot of my friends that too. Some hardly ever lock their doors.
They tell me, "I can see out the window if somone is coming up," and I reply, "but how often are you looking?"
It seems easier to me to just keep the door locked.
I keep my house locked up unless dh & I are both home & working in the yard.
Also, if I can keep criminals away, its just much easier than shooting them. It's just easier on me if I can inconvenience them and make them leave, rather than having to shoot them, then get the cops out there, then clean up the mess, then deal with a possible civil suit.
