Might want to read your policy to be sure ..Id bet not all policys are the same in that regard.wgoforth wrote:BTW, you have a right to take it where you want and to use original parts. Most insurance co's will tell you they have co's they work with, but I have always insisted on taking it to people I knew.utme wrote:BTW, USAA probably has low auto insurance rates because their members hit and run. My wife's car was hit last year in the school parking lot. I witness wrote down the license plate number. Our insurance company, State Farm, tracked down the address. I had the police confront the lady at her house and she confessed. USAA reluctantly paid for the damage, and did not apologize or act as though the person did anything wrong by driving away. I'm a member of the bank but not the insurance. They could have cared less. I took the car to the USAA approved shop and the bumper had to be repainted 4 times and was still not right. An inspector finally came out from USAA and again could give a hoot. Work was OK, but not great. They used fake bumper parts or refurb parts instead of new genuine Toyota parts. Probably devalued our car. Not impressed by USAA response and don't care attitude.
USAA, state in the policy that a car over 2 model years old, will have used or remanufactured part installed as part of the repair when available.. Or wording to that effect. It is NOT your choice, it is there’s… Mostly.. Your right about the shop, that is your call, they cannot insist on a specific shop… which is where I get my new parts installed ..

If the body shop can not successfully make the repair with aftermarket, used, or recondition parts ,, USAA (the place I know best) will allow the body shop to purchase and install new parts.
Good working relationship with the body shop, and a good working relationship between the body shop and the INS adjuster is a huge help here.
IANAL.. but… what I can read in the policy, what the insurance company has stated, and what my family lawyer (criminal, not adlaw) is.. it’s in the policy, and very enforceable.
Have a read at the docs used to sign up a body shop into the USAA repair program
