longhorn_92 wrote:Ok... It's been almost a month since the first reports of the XDs is selling. The more I study it, the more I like it. The problem is... I still do not see them anywhere. Has anyone bought one? Are you seeing them them anywhere yet?... Help...
The only shop in my area that had them is the Army PX on hood, they got a 1st shipment of two, and a second shipment of 1.

No one else seems to have them here or know when they will.

Yup it is nice, have one.. the grip size is the same as my XD compact .45, but the XDm has a shorter overall length, and especially the .2 shorter barrel.

What I want in the XDs small over all and the slimmer grip, only something your going to get in a single stack gun.

I toyed with a Springfield Micro Compact 45 today......if my rifle sells, Im going for the Micro, if not, I'll save a bit until the XD's is available form my preferred store, and then choose..

What did you think about the LONG front to rear grip, skinny width, and short length?
See if you can find a Walther PPS the next time you're fondling an XDs in the toy store - they should feel almost exactly the same, since the two guns are almost exactly the same size as each other. I quickly found that the "long" front-to-rear grip was very manageable on my PPS, even better with a Limbsaver on it - prevents the hand from wrapping around itself if they downsized the grip.
I will have to go to my least favorite gun store to do that, but I'll stop by today and see if they have an XDs.. As snobbish as they are, not likely.

AndyC wrote:I didn't really mind the short grip - I'd shot an XDS a few months ago at an industry event and I remember feeling surprised that it didn't bother me at all. The thump into the hand was reminiscent of a (non +P load) all-steel .357 mag snubbie; authoritative without being unpleasant at all. It didn't bite me in the slightest and the grip-length front-to-back felt just fine - I guess it's a subjective thing :tiphat:
Andy thanks for the insight.

Im thinking Im just going to have to buy it and find out after a few hundred rounds.

Wife has her CHL class this sat.. and I was asked to keep her company...As there is an indoor range, I could pop out at break time and get some range time before or after the class does it's shooting.

Balance seemed ok, it points well... and it's single stack thin, but the grip is....LONG? front to rear.. they seemed to not have changed the grip at all, except made it thinner for the single stack. It is a weird feel... and not one Im sold on.... my XD compact and Sub are safe in the line up for today.. I'll sleep on it and have a feel again tomorrow.
So does this pistol have the exchangeable back strap inserts?
According to the manual... yes it does

Did the gun tend to cut into your hand with recoil?

Since privately owned firearms are not allowed on military bases, I am
surprised to hear that the Fort Hood PX sells pistols.

Do PX's at other sites commonly sell firearms?

SIA
1: Privately owned fire arms are allowed on military bases, they must be registered prior to entering on FT Hood, and stored in the home, or unit arms room.
2: Yes, most major Army PX's sell fire arms, long guns and hand guns.

Re: Springfield XDs opinions?

So guess who got to play with a XDS .45 today.. Yes folks they have shipped,, and the first place I found one ... Fort hood PX got two in today's shipment, to which i just happened to be present for.

$533.00 no tax out the door price.

Honestly, I was not excited and thrilled enough with the grip feel to buy it on sight.
