The Honorable Richard “Rick” Perry
Governor of Texas
P. O. Box 12428

RE: Support and concurrence with letter sent to you from Charles L. Cotton

Dear Governor Perry,

This letter to you comes from a 47 year old US citizen, transplanted Texan here to stay, and military member with more than 29 years of service the last 7 of which brought me to and convinced me to remain in the great state of Texas after retirement.

Having voted for you in your last election and motivated to do so again should you choose to run for the same or another office, my support and concurrence in general with your publically stated positions and desired direction for the state of Texas is clear.

I hold a Texas Concealed Handgun license, and have for several years now, as does my wife and youngest son.

This letter is sent to ensure my voice is heard in concurrence with the comments of Charles L. Cotton in his recent correspondence to you regarding the request for your strong leadership and support for the advancement of the rights of Texas Concealed Handgun Licensees (CHL’s) in a special session of the legislature.

I am proud of your public support of the Second Amendment at home, on the state and national level, and following notorious mass shootings which only emphasize, more guns laws and restrictions effecting law abiding citizens in the state do not stop those who do not obey laws.

While I hope to never need the use of a gun in self-defense of myself or a third party outside of my duties as a US Army Infantry Sergeant Major. Like many others, I wish the legal ability to do so should the need arise. Whenever and where ever that horrid event might take place.

In this last session, treatment of your supporters, Texans, citizens, by some in the legislature was a slap in the face. To the more than 600,000 honest Texas CHL's who have an 18 year history of being the most law abiding group of citizens in the state, what transpired was a disgusting display of elitism and political folly by a few.

I ask that you lend your considerable influence and support in the special session called to the following topics:
1. Comprehensive campus carry
2. Eliminate remaining off limits areas for CHL’s as per HB 3218
3. Prohibit the improper and unenforceable 30.06 signs on governmental buildings as per the original HB 508
The millions of honest Texas gun owners and more than a half million CHL’s will eagerly await their opportunity to support you for your efforts in these matters.

Respectfully

Erik J. Marquez
