The lid is plastic, under that is a metal bracket/bottle opener. It really is a good cooler design.

I cut the plastic loop off the lid so I can lock a cable to it without locking it shut. Ran the cable around my ladder rack. I can still lock it closed by putting a lock on the other side.

All 6 of mine were recalled. Finally got through on the website. Have model #, date code and serial # handy. 15 to 20 days for replacements. Hopefully I can keep the old ones for teaching the wife and kids how to use them. Or shoot them!!
