I cannot speak for the 17, but when my wife got her Glock 19 last April, she bought it for the same reason - reliability.
We found that straight out of the box, the magazines seemed to stick a bit.
Once we ran about 30 rounds through each magazine, it started eating everything.
I don't know if it truly was the magazine, or the weapon, but after the first few mags, all was good.
