I plan to get a Savage 10FP in .308.

Regarding the "cheapo" Saiga, don't let the price fool you any more than you would let the price of a Savage fool you.

Sure, the Saiga needs a pistol-grip conversion, which includes a few U.S. parts to comply with 922r, but once you get a decent U.S. trigger in there, it's a mighty fine shooter!

Right now, I'd focus my buys on anything that might be included in the assault weapons ban, if it passes. So far, bolt rifles aren't included.

Something else to consider, that I think looks cool (though I have zero experience with one) is the Kel-Tec SU16c. Looks like it would make a great "truck gun".
