Re: DFW Skeet Shoot—POSTPONED DUE TO WEATHER....

I won't be able to make it this Saturday.

One of my granddaughters is graduating high school on Friday. We're driving down to Burnet and won't be back home until Saturday afternoon.

For the rest of you, Elm Fork's web page now says:
Limited Services For The Next 30 Days: Skeet Fields, Practice Traps, One Sporting Clay Course
So it looks like the skeet fields will be open, if the weather holds. Good luck!

Re: DFW Skeet Shoot—Alpine or Elm Fork, 5/23 weather permitt

As much as I want to shoot, I'm not too excited about making a 75 mile drive only to get rained out.

I'll pass on tomorrow.

Re: Time for Another Elm Fork Skeet Shoot

Alpine is $7.50 per round of skeet and Elm Fork is $8.95.

Four rounds is usually our limit.

7-1/2, 8, or 9 shot is good.

Re: Time for Another Elm Fork Skeet Shoot

Garland has spring loaded throwers so you can break some clay birds, but skeet, it is not. :tiphat:

Have not picked up a shotgun since thumb replacement in December, and ready to try it out. If available on the day y'all pick, I am in!

Anyway, I note that today, it isn't supposed to start raining until 5 pm. Yesterday turned into a nice day and we could have done it then easily.
Since nothing was nailed down here, I've committed to going to Garland this morning.

BTW, I can't change the vote I did yesterday.

drjoker wrote:I don't know how to skeet shoot a shotgun. I mean, how much do you lead in front of the clay? If you don't mind teaching a novice, I'll tag along. Thanks.
As much as it takes. ;-)

Seriously, wingshooting (which is what all clay sports simulate) is instinctive shooting. How much lead depends on the distance, speed, & angle of the bird. Starting out, we can give you suggestions on how much to lead, but you really have to figure out what works for you. :tiphat:

Re: Time for Another Elm Fork Skeet Shoot

I went ahead and voted for 5/16 because (right now) it looks like the rain won't start until the afternoon.

If we don't shoot skeet tomorrow morning, I'm heading to GPSR to do ammo testing with my rifle. I'm shooting either way! ;-)

Re: Time for Another Elm Fork Skeet Shoot

I'm up for it pretty much any time. The problem is going to be the weather. As C-Dub mentioned in another thread, they're calling for rain for the next 9 days.

Of course, that could change tomorrow.
