Re: 147th Annual NRA Meeting in Dallas
If conventions cost the city so much money, isn't bulldozing the entire convention center the only thing that makes sense?

Re: 147th Annual NRA Meeting in Dallas
My grandson (19) and I had a great time yesterday. We cruised the entire exhibit floor, taking in as much as possible. Mostly he was following me, but then we would hit a booth or an area that really tripped his trigger. Then I dutifully followed him as much as possible, paying close attention to anything he wanted to tell me. I think he showed me and explained about half the guns at the AirForce Airguns booth.
I saw several familiar famous faces, but they were busy with something else, so I didn't get to meet them. I did have the honor of shaking John Lott's hand. I was disappointed that there was no one else at his booth.
My grandson swears that next year he's going to fly both of us to the convention next year. How's that for an endorsement?

Anti-Gunners Plan To Protest NRA Convention, President Trump In Dallas
It seems leftists in the Dallas area don’t want either the National Rifle Association or President Trump in town this week. Big shock, right? I mean, it’s not like the anti-gun left doesn’t vehemently hate both with a burning passion.
Well, unsurprisingly, there are plans in place to protest both.

Yes, quite some time ago.
Look, this isn't rocket science... Go here: https://www.etix.com/ticket/p/8137229/n ... anguage=en
The bold text tells you the forum (scheduled for the 4th) is off limits.
Scroll down and you can see that the forum is in the arena.
Ergo, the arena is off limits during the forum.
Now, was that hard?

Re: 147th Annual NRA Meeting in Dallas
I never said a word about not going at all. I just won't be able to disarm for the Annual Meeting of Members. We will still be there.Liberty wrote:Those who resent Pence attending the Leadership commitee meeting, Might want to consider just how bad we need allies in Washington DC. I don't understand the issue, If you don't want or can't disarm then just don't go to that particular meeting. You can catch the speech later on UTube, There will be plenty to do at the convention and Pence speech will be a very small part of it. I wonder how much could be accomplished by just a simple informal conversation with someone like Dana Loesch over the Post office issues. Lots of government policy is developed at cocktail parties and informal dinners.

Re: 147th Annual NRA Meeting in Dallas
Currently, the NRA-ILA Leadership Forum on the 4th carries the statement that weapons will not be allowed due to the VP being there. The Annoyed Man wrote:I’ve heard that the same will be true for Pence’s keynote speech - guns will not be allowed. I believe that is a secret service decision, not the NRA’s.Pawpaw wrote:I hope Trump is going to address the Leadership Forum, like Pence, instead of the Annual Meeting.
I have been looking forward to attending my first meeting and sharing it with my grandson. He & I are riding the DART train in and staying thru the Charlie Daniels event. I'm not willing to be disarmed all that time and distance.
I would enjoy seeing the President, but the potential price is too high.
The Annual Meeting of Members on the 5th does not currently have any such statement.
It would be very disappointing if the Annual Meeting were also restricted due to the President speaking. It's probably just a pipe dream, though. I don't think both the President and VP would speak at the same event. Both of them being there at the same time would probably be considered too risky.
EDIT: According to the Dallas Snooze, they will both speak on Friday: https://www.dallasnews.com/news/politic ... las-friday

Re: 147th Annual NRA Meeting in Dallas
The NRA has no say whatsoever on the subject of Secret Service restrictions during Pence's visit... Unless, of course, they want to dis-invite him.
I hate it too, but it is what it is. Thankfully, it's only the arena that will be affected.
The arena existed long before there was a convention center. It was known as Memorial Auditorium. I've been there many times over the years. As a kid, we went to the Ringling Brother's Circus (yep... three rings) there, as well as the Ice Capades. That's also where my high school graduation was held. They needed a BIG auditorium to graduate over 1100 kids.
10+ years ago, I took my adult son to a Stars hockey game there, too.

Has anyone else seen anything different?

Re: 147th Annual NRA Meeting in Dallas
As I understand it, there is no evidence the City of Dallas feels that way.
This is nothing more than some numbnuts bloviating for what he thinks will be political gain.

There is no way the money grubbing city council is going to give up the revenue. This is nothing more than political grandstanding. (Translation: hot air)
