Re: Utah or Texas ? Or.....Both ?

baldeagle wrote:$215.25 for a Utah CWP only class? Jeez. Let's see. If the instructor collects the license fee Utah ($65?) and bundles range fees with a rental gun and ammo, eye protection and hearing protection ($40), then he's charging $110.25 for his training. You can take the Texas CHL for as little as $50 - http://www.cityofterrell.org/handgun.htm#class" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (but you supply gun, ammo, eye and hearing protection) and all over the place for around $100 to $140 - http://chltraining.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - http://www.chl-tx.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - http://safegunacademy.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (and they supply everything you need). You get 4 more hours of instruction plus fingerprints for less than half what this guy is charging.

I'd call that a ripoff, plain and simple.

Note: the above are examples, not recommendations. I took the class from Captain McKeown in Terrel, but there are may ethical and qualified instructors in the area - some of whom are active in this forum.

Your right, It is a rippff ! But , if he doesnt refund my money , then I probably deserve that for not looking into it more than I should have. At least I didnt pay the full amount....

Re: Utah or Texas ? Or.....Both ?

Its looks real fishy now that ive been reading up on it. I hope I can get my deposit back if the instructor doesnt also provide me with a TX course also, which he does teach. Tommorow im calling him first thing. I now know why my Dad took his course with my Mom. Because he probably felt that she wouldnt pass the TX course before he died because of something stupid . He just wanted her to be able to have something on her . I know there is a bounch of carriers who feel everyone should take the TX course , I even feel that way . But if I knew I only had a few months to live I would do whatever I could to cut corners ( which is legal right now) so my wife could be able to protect herself when i am gone. I think anyone with a good record and some shooting experiance should be able to carry. I know cops who are just as good at shooting a pistol as my mom , and they went to school for it. And I also know many people who are CHL holders who are alcoholics and have prescription drug problems , but that sure didnt stop them from getting a license.

Re: Utah or Texas ? Or.....Both ?

I agree completly . I just am wondering if it will cost the same $215 to get both ? I was under the impression that it was ok at the time I was told about it , but now that I know Utah does nothing but a background check , i feel I made a mistake. I want a Tx CHL regardless. I would just like to know if I can do it all at the same time . My mother just realized that .

Utah or Texas ? Or.....Both ?

Hello everyone ! Im new to this site and while reading several post throughout my workday Ive noticed that all of you are very nice people that look out for your fellow citizen. So Im happy to be here.
Two days ago I put a $75 deposit down for a class at cabelas on july 11th to get my CHL for Utah , and I thought it also included Texas. But after reading many of the post here I feel that I made a mistake. The class alltogether cost $215.25 and is a 6 hour class w/ no written test and no range qualification. I went to this guy because my Father ( who passed away july 12th of cancer) went through him to get a Utah to go alongside his Texas CHl that he had since the law was passed, and he also took my mother who now has her Utah license. I talked to her today and after reading the WFAA article she has decided to wait untill she gets her Texas Chl before she carries. Should I get my money back and Go through someone who will do both for the same price ? Im just a little confused and feel I am dealing with one of the few who is selling the idea of bypassing the TX Chl and getting just the Utah. Did I make a huge mistake or am i just overthinking? How much am I suppose to pay for both ....alltogether?
