Years ago when I was forced to live in the Northeast I remember hearing about some survey that asked people if they identified first with their state or with their country. I don't remember the exact numbers, but for every state except Texas something like 95-99% said country. I like a lot of the same things Jerry Jeff Walker sung about, and other people here are citing, but I also like that Texas is not any of the other 49 states. i've been to and lived in a lot of places --never found any place better than Texas. It just "feels" different here.
