The Annoyed Man wrote:Here is the best breakdown I've seen yet of the Obama/Elizabeth Warren "You didn't build that" speeches. As is often the case, there is no believer on fire like a mid-life convert (which includes me). This person has a blog, and he also posts under the nom de plume of "Zombie" on Pajama Meda. He identifies himself as a hard core liberal right up until 9/11, which is when he awoke from his intellectual slumbers.

This article absolutely DESTROYS the collectivist "you didn't build that" arguments, and I invite you all to read it, and to use the points he makes (using government facts and figures) to completely refure your unreasoning friends and family:

President Obama’s instantly infamous “You didn’t build that” speech is a major turning point of the 2012 election not because it was a gaffe but because it was an accurate and concise summary of core progressive fiscal dogma. It was also a political blunder of epic proportions because in his speech Obama unintentionally proved the conservatives’ case for limited government.

This essay will show you how.

When Obama implied at the Roanoke, Virginia rally that some businessmen refuse to pay for public works from which they benefit, he presented a thesis which, like a three-legged stool, relies on three assumptions that must all be true for the argument to remain standing:

1. That the public programs he mentioned in his speech constitute a significant portion of the federal budget;
2. That business owners don’t already pay far more than their fair share of these expenses; and
3. That these specific public benefits are a federal issue, rather than a local issue.

If any of these legs fails, then the whole argument collapses.

For good measure, we won’t just kick out one, we’ll kick out all three.
I hope they scream racism every time they open their mouths, I hope the Marxist in Chief cries racism in every speech. It's already worn pretty thin and more and more people are getting tired of the excuses. It doesn't work so well anymore when so much data is available on the internet. And I note a significant change in comments following various main stream news articles: many people have become very cynical about these claims. I think they're more likely to blow up in his face than earn him any votes.

Wow, you're optimistic. I think a liberal who is susceptible to having his eyes opened is a like a Unicorn --a mythological creature. Liberals are like Hitler's staff in the German film Der Untergang (The Downfall). Hiding in an underground bunker in Berlin under continuous shelling, the city surrounded by Russian troops, they were all certain their Dear Leader was going to smite the allies with a secret weapon and win the war. Well, OK, I exaggerate ---our liberals are even more delusional, they'd probably think the Dear Leader's suicide was a ruse.

Apparently, the Obama "he didn't say that" argument is that the President, and/or his speechwriters, don't know how to speak English, and we shouldn't assume that what he says actually means what he says. I like this argument because the Obama team itself is saying essentially that even without assuming the President is a pathological liar we can't believe anything he says.

tallmike wrote:Can a kid coming from a poor uneducated family make his life turn out great? Absolutely, but it is much harder and far less likely than if your parents were Harvard graduates.

Can you honestly tell me that a single mom HS dropout, who works for $8 per hour, lives in an inner city hotel where she raises 3 kids can provide her kids with the same opportunities in life that a doctor mom and lawyer dad making $400k per year would be able to provide for their kids?

I'm certainly not saying that government charity is the best answer, but its part of the answer. If you were having a conversation about this with Jesus do you think you would be able to convince him that he should be against paying an extra 3-5% income tax next year?
You may feel that you're being sympathetic, but I see your attitude as perpetuating the problem. You apparently think that having children you can't provide for is some kind of right. Not only is it not a right, but having children you know beforehand you can't provide for is immoral.

Let's take the single mom story, which you present as if she has no responsibility for her situation. Why is she a single mom? Did her husband leave her or did she get pregnant out of wedlock? Why did she drop out from HS? Most significantly, why did she have three kids she can't provide for? The fact is, her situation is largely the product of HER bad choices....her choice not to finish school and her choice to have children she can't support. How am I responsible for that? I would have loved to have more children, but my wife and I limited ourselves to the number of children we could support. I waited to get married and have children until I was in the financial situation necessary to do right by them. But by your philosophy, those of us who take responsibility for our actions are supposed to give our money to those who don't. As Thomas Sowell says, when you pay for something, you get more of it.

And btw, neither of my parents were Harvard graduates and I'm doing just fine. Neither even went to college. They were born during The Depression era and both came from poor families. They did without. They worked for what they got and they saved for the future. No one handed them anything.

The welfare system doesn't work in the way your sympathies would like it to. I works, and was designed to work, to foster dependency. The welfare system facilitated those three children from a single mother. The bad choices of her parents were perpetuated by her, and will be again by her children.

This, coming from a sitting American President.......

/sigh

Had a friend growing up who did construction work after high school. He saved his money and bought all of his own tools, and after a few years, he and a friend decided to go out on their own doing custom carpentry and home improvement. They slowly built up a clientele base, mostly from word of mouth. This dude worked 6 days a week, as long as it took to get the job done, and get it done RIGHT. To this day, he is one of THE hardest working individuals I have EVER met, and I haven't met anybody that was as adamant about attention to detail and perfection as he was on the job. The muldoon was a true craftsmen in every sense of the word.

He, and thousands out there like him, are what our country are all about. Hard working individuals willing to do what it takes to provide goods or services in demand by their fellow citizens.

And our sitting President just dumped all over these people.

And the media will support him, and people will STILL vote for him....
I'd say yes, those coming from the least productive elements of society, or non-productive elements --but that wouldn't be correct, because the mainstream media isn't really non-productive, it is actually the most destructive influence in the country and the world entire. They don't just lie, they're degenerate and anti-American --truly a 5th column.

Read my Lips!

I don't know, Obama has said some stupid things before and they didn't stick. I hope it does, but we will see.
Most of the stupid things he says are stupid mistakes. (57 states, repeatedly mispronouncing "corpsman", etc.) This is not only stupid, but insulting to the extreme, and it wasn't a mistake, he really meant it, and meant to say it.
The ones that stick tend to be the ones that are amplified by the MSM.....it's virtually impossible to get any play in the MSM for anything that puts The Obamanation in a negative light. I used to think the Obama hates American stuff was over the top, but I've slowly come to realize that this narcissist in chief really does hate this country and what it supposed to stand for. A second term for this lying narcissist will be catastrophic for this country.

The incidences of "Obama said/did what?!?" are increasing so rapidly, I'm having trouble keeping up...

Anyway, now he's claiming that success in business is due to the government, and not actually working, having a strong work ethic, or selling a better mousetrap.

His Marxism is showing.
