Holdover from my military days. Noone thinks twice about it, and it has a pouch inside the front zipper that a walther P22, XD9 or any small frame auto / Jframe fits into, due to the shape of the water bladder inside the reare compartment, this internal pocket is nearly invisible, but accessable easily.

Also convenient for carrying water.
