Re: Houston Grand Jury indicts pair behind Planned Parenthood videos

Bumping this because I saw where Ogg was elected Harris County DA. For you Houston folks, what happened? Is Harris just that blue, or was there some particular issue going on? Did the current DA's mishandling of the PP case discussed above have anything to do with it?

Chas.
Since I do not live in Harris County. I will not be voting for either. My comment was not a political statement. Right is right and wrong is wrong regardless which party one belongs to.

I also didn't say anyone specific including the DA. My comment and anger is towards whomever pursued their agenda by indicting the whistleblowers and not the criminals that kill babies and sell body parts. The videos are Very clear what was going on.

Again, my comment was not meant to be political as I know very little about the details of Harris County politics.
Several years ago, I made a vow to myself that I would never vote Democrat again under any circumstances. I don't live in Harris County either but if I did, I would very strongly consider breaking that vow in this case. This Republican DA's actions are an abomination arguably on par with all but the worst of the anti-gunners, and Texas at least for now has sufficiently strong gun laws that an anti-gun DA can't do much if any damage. This is that rare case where losing the battle may actually help win the war.

I don't want to put a whole lot of confidence in an AP reporter's regurgitation of a Planned Parenthood attorney's spin, but what in the world is going on here? Is it even possible that a grand jury didn't even vote on the very thing it was convened for? It's like we're in a Lewis Carroll novel.

What has happened to us?

Re: Houston Grand Jury indicts pair behind Planned Parenthood videos

Wow.

The UT Medical Center was buying aborted fetal tissue? Isn't that one of the things this journalist was indicted for? Is this DA going to go after UT now?

I hope there is something else going on here that we're not privy to, or else I'm afraid we may well be done as a country. The hypocrisy surrounding this general issue is bad enough, but the blatant corruption of our government institutions to prop up Planned Parenthood at seemingly any cost simply defies explanation. We cannot survive this and remain a nation of laws.

The Harris Count District Attorney is, like every other distrct attorney in the State of Texas, an elected official. They are elected by the voters in the county in which they serve.
I read yesterday that she was appointed by Perry after her husband, who was the DA, died in office. She might have stood for office herself since, I don't know.

Your state, or at least one not insignificant agent of it, just gave the pro-abortion side several months worth of propaganda headlines that will be thrown in your face for years to come, regardless of how the legal proceedings ultimately play out. I'm not sure how this constitutes "putting up a fight".

Also, what exactly was a farce about the videos? I am not aware of any other similar investigative endeavor that has been as open and transparent as this one. Every minute of every video was released. NBC/CBS/ABC does not do that.

Am I misreading your post?

I don't entirely disagree about holding ourselves to a higher standard. However, the deck is stacked against us. At some point when you continue to play by rules that aren't even recognized by your opponent you're no longer in the game, you're not even on the field. I'm not leaving, and I wouldn't leave even if there was some place to go.

I'm going off grid as much as possible but at this point, that's not a lot. At this point any practical "revolt" is limited to the states standing up to the federal government. For example, if the feds pass a law to confiscate guns, states like Texas pass a law refusing to recognize or enforce that law, just like other states allow sanctuary cities and don't enforce marijuana laws. That is the only peaceful means of opposition to tyranny remaining to us.
I don't think that you and I are crazy far apart. And I get the frustration. Believe me, I get the frustration.
Cosigned. I am extremely troubled by where this country is headed. Until this, I at least took comfort that if worst came to worst, at least Texas on balance was not likely to succumb to the left's corruption. Now I'm not so sure.

Lauren Reeder, one of the prosecutors in the Harris County district attorney’s office, revealed last August that she was a member of the board of directors for the Planned Parenthood affiliate that was targeted by Daleiden.

Reeder’s LinkedIn page indicates that she has been a Planned Parenthood board member since 2013 and a fundraiser for the abortion provider since 2009:

I'm seeing in other sources that while she is in fact an attorney in the DA's office, she was supposedly not involved in this case and they erected "Chinese walls", for whatever that's worth, to prevent her from influencing it.

I don't know much about Harris county's internal politics but it is at minimum concerning that a Perry appointed Republican (which the DA is, as I understand it) would even have such a person on staff, but again, I don't know the circumstances surrounding this or how these assistants are typically selected.

But if a Planned Parenthood board member did indeed prosecute this case, we're done here. Time to hit the reset button.

For the sake of this state, this country, possibly even the very fundamentals of Western civiliation, I hope this is not true. If this was allowed to happen in Texas, of all places, I cannot fathom how we would recover from such corruption.

Re: Houston Grand Jury indicts pair behind Planned Parenthood videos

How does any news organization do undercover investigations then? Remember that NBC show where they used to lure child molesters to a house, then the reporter (Chris Hanson?) would walk out and say "Please have a seat over there"? Didn't they pay underaged girls to solicit those guys? How is this any different? Why is Chris Hanson not in jail?

And how can you be indicted for buying baby parts but not for selling them?

There's got to be more to this. If not, turn out the lights because humanity is done here.
