Re: DC Police Chief Says Citizens Should Fight Terrorists
Sorry I did not know that the DC Police Chief was a woman, and used the masculine pronoun. I did not see, hear, or read the interview; I'm too deaf to watch TV but I remember enough of 60 Minutes (from when I did watch TV) that I would not watch it if I could. Glad the Chief came out in favor of sel...

RoyGBiv you are absolutely right!
But they let him off the hook by failing to ask "how, with what weapons?" and now he has time to backtrack and claim he didn't mean it.
But those who read it may start thinking... like the people here... so on balance you are right, it is a win.

Re: Are there any Linux users on this board?
Thanks! I'm actually ready to install Linux on my laptop as a dual-boot with windows 8.1, just 1) wondering about how "politics" relates to Ubuntu, and 2) not sure whether to manually re-partition the disc or go along with (trust) the Ubuntu installer. I have run Ubuntu from the pen drive ...

Re: Are there any Linux users on this board?
Curious about your political problems with Ubuntu. I'm still stuck with Windows but have Ubuntu on a pen drive and can boot it on my laptop. Haven't installed it alongside windows yet, mostly because I'm not well-versed enough to be confident the Ubuntu installer will partition the drive and install...

Re: only in California (I hope)
Am I mis-remembering this or what? Years ago we got a good laugh out of a court ruling that felons (in states where gun registration is in-place) need not register their guns because, since they are prohibited from owning guns, registering them would be a violation of their Fifth-Amendment Right aga...

Re: Let's talk knives.
Glad you bumped this thread, I must have missed it before.
OP asked about blade steels. This site http://ajh-knives.com/metals.html describes suitable steels. Enjoy but don't get wrapped around the axle - any "good name" knife you buy will be made of good blade steel.

Re: Best Truck?
Knowing how many miles you drive per year and how many years you intend to keep it would help a lot. My '95 Dodge Cummins has 576k miles on it, still gets 21-22 mpg, looks like trash, but still gets me to work and to the range. But if you don't keep vehicles until they are worn out, such a thing wou...

Re: Houston LGS recommendations
Don't know what Carter's is like these days, but years ago they matched a gun show price on a Ruger Vaquero and I bought it. Can't hurt to ask, "Is that your best price?" - worst they can say is "Yes."

Is there in echo in here? I was told the same thing in the 1950s - world ending, Russian bombers coming over the pole, Chinese (sorry - Red Chinese!) bombers with Russian markings (false flag attack - "let's you and him fight") coming instead. ICBMs (everyone claimed they saw it, nobody wa...

Andy, thanks for that! I like Ubuntu but YUMI looks cool, the idea of trying different ones before choosing the one to install is really attractive.

Re: Windows 10 Shares Your Wi-Fi With Contacts
As a consequence of being encouraged by someone on this Forum, a while back, I finally downloaded Ubuntu on a bootable USB drive and tried it on my 8.1 machine. It is great! The biggest hurdle was just doing it - once the decision was made, everything fell into place. It works like a charm and I wil...

Re: CSGV Urges “SWATting” Gun Owners, Abuse Of 911 System
I'm sorry to giggle so hard - but it seems inevitable that if enough of these people actually do call the police when they see someone with a legally-carried firearm, that the police are going to stop laughing them off and start arresting them for filing a false police report, or whatever the correc...
