Re: Today at the gun range
For what it's worth, the time I spent working at a range, employees were not instructed to ask about paperwork for NFA items. Usually folks would either volunteer the paperwork (which no one was interested in seeing) or they would just not bring it up. We were only told that Full Auto was not allowe...

Re: Austin ranges w/ rental guns?
Reds North should be able to get y'all what you need. Pricing used to be $15 for the first gun and an additional $5 for any gun thereafter plus ammunition (plus the hourly range fee - its also cheaper to share a lane). That pricing is based on my experience there over a year ago though, so it may ha...

Re: I need a first aid kit
I recommend MedicalGearOutfitters . His basic kits are (in my opinion) priced very reasonably, and while his trauma ('blowout') kits are more spendy, I still think that they are reasonably priced for what they come with. On top of that, he puts out videos on Youtube on general first aid issues which...

Re: Woman threatens to shoot teachers/kids at my kid's elem
Perhaps I can shed some light on the topic of school security; I work IT in a small, rural school district (which I will not name for obvious reasons) and we've been making quite a few changes to accommodate for increased security and safety for the kids in the past few months. Regarding the whole &...

Re: Dangerous shooters at the range
Holy cow, wow! I only wish we had 4 RSO's during our busy times. Certainly does seem doable with the ratio you described, but still dicey. As you said, the lack of follow through from the same RO each time contributed to it. Makes me wonder what their protocol is when multiple RO's are on the line a...

Re: Dangerous shooters at the range
I've RSO'ed at an indoor range that seems to have had similar circumstances to what you just described, So I'd like to kick in my .2 cents regarding this type of behavior. The range I worked at had 16 lanes - on the weekends it was a MADHOUSE. We regularly had at least 315 shooters come through per ...

Re: Best Tritium or Night Sights -Glock 17
Another vote for the Truglo TFO's from me. I've had a set on my G17 for over a year and I've had zero problems with them. Bright as the sun in day light, and bright enough to avoid being distracting in darkness. You do need to be cautious with cleaning solvents on them though... I've heard some bad ...

Re: Anyone else local ISD posting 30.06 signs?
I work for a small ISD, and none of our facilities or campuses are posted. An adjacent ISD (which is seriously TINY, the graduating class was around 6 people for them last year!) does have their "High School" facility 30-06'ed at one entrance, though.

Re: DPS Serial Number Check Strategy
In my experience this can and does happen. Years (4-5?) ago a friend and myself were driving to the range, and were pulled over by a DPS officer for some unbeknownst reason. We, of course, had guns in the car (wouldn't be really possible to shoot without them!), and as soon as the officer found out,...

Re: Neighbors new dog
I rent what you could call a small 1 bedroom "cottage" (a small stand alone house) and my neighbors have this sad little Chihuahua with a napoleon complex literally tied to it's crate door with a 3 foot leash, right outside their front door. It barks every single time I go outside my door,...

Re: Fire at DFW Gun Range?
Thank goodness no one was injured.
Perfect example of why some indoor ranges are absolutely strict about checking ammo. People do dumb things, or think there is some kind of sinister or unfair rule that doesn't apply to them.

Re: Man shoots himself - Reds Indoor 01/19/13
Yeah, it's the same incident. The last shooting incident to occur at Red's North was about a year ago. Prior to this most recent one, of course. I just chalked it up to bad reporting on the part of the media outlets that did report it. I guess I could expound on what I was told a bit more. The guy p...

Re: Man shoots himself - Reds Indoor 01/19/13
I can share a small bit of info on this. It appears to have been self inflicted, with a rental .22lr pistol. From what I understand the 17 YO was there shooting with his father. I've spoken to someome who works there and was present when it occurred. Really a shame and a tragedy. I've never understo...

Re: P238 Opinions
If I was going to get a carry .380, I'd get one. The rental at the range fair very well, but I will add that ours seemed rather easy for folks to limp wrist. Most were inexperienced shooters however. Not sure if that is indicative of an overall issue or just the sample of one I have had experience w...

Re: Address Change turn around
I just got my updated card yesterday. Oddly, both my DL and CHL arrived on the same day.IIRC, this was about the same turn around I saw when I moved last year.
