Thanks for a heads up on that article, Cool stuff. I'm glad to see History will be producing another informative show about guns. I'm getting REALLY tired of the same old ones they show over and over again - it's about time they filmed something new (preferably without the same old stuffy museum curators that they've had on their past shows), and It sounds like Colby will do good with it. I'll definitely watch that.

Here is a link to a chat that the Kit Up! Blog did with Jake. I won't lie, it's sort of boring and painful to read over, but basically Jake confirms that he only did the show for the publicity his "football coaching career" would receive.

Also, it would seem that A LOT of folks think that the show is rigged - I'm not exactly sure why. I honestly have a feeling that a lot of the folks that think this may be letting their opinion of the "reality show" characteristics of the show bias them into coming to those conclusions. I still want to know what makes them think this, though. There are a few things that I've observed with the show that make me go "Huh, that's not right" but I mostly chock them up to the show getting chopped and made to look better on TV. IE: The editors very clearly overlay sound effects during some of the shooting portions. I'm sorry, but the noise the .22's they have shot on the show sound NOTHING like a real .22. The finale also had some really cheezy sound effects dubbed for when the shooters would hit the metal swinging targets - each target made the SAME exact noise after being shot, which didn't sound like what the actual noise a steel target makes when shot IMHO. The sound effect sounds like it could be a car being shot in a summer action film. I personally feel that things like that are just the production/editing guys trying to "polish" the show up so that it looks and "sounds" better. They probably just pull the effects from the same archives Action film makers use. At any rate, I can see that perhaps if someone was viewing the show and noticed these inconsistencies that they might start to doubt how "real" it is. It's just a fact that regardless of what was actually filmed, what actually airs is going to be gone over with the good old hollywood spit shine to appease whomever has overall control of the show. It doesn't really bother me personally, but I have to wonder if things like this are what turn folks off to the show and make them think "OMG itz sooooo rigged".

Awesome finale. Dustin just totally smoked that course! I totally respect Mike though, and was pulling for both of them just the same. The fact that Mike seemed to be totally Zen for the most part had me surprise. Both had great skill.

I do really wish Gary would have made it though. Ah well!

Im glad to see that overall the competitors this season were more honorable (jake excluded ) than last season. Let's hope that next season rocks even harder!

Cool episode last night. I think it was neat to see something like an SP89 be used - pretty unconventional if you ask me, especially considering how they used it! That stage looked like so much fun. Additionally, seeing them use the Steyr SPP was cool as well. That certainly isn't a gun you see everyday.

Mike has pretty much proved that when he buckles down "under the gun" he can get things done. He absolutely destroyed the elimination challange last night - watching him, he was just like a machine transitioning from target to target . Something that my wife mentioned that it's almost like he posesses almost a kind of frustrating calm. A few episodes back Jake almost got him to snap, but it was pretty crazy watching that exchange because it almost seemed like he just flipped a switch and then went back to his normal calm self, thus defeating Jakes challange.

I really am confused that the show allowed Mike to shoot the way he did. That was way more chest level than hip level! Pretty dumb IMHO.

Jake is still a word I would rather not say on here- I think that when he acts nice to the team after his outbursts he is really just making good on his previous statements of "playing" the team. The guy is just plain unsporting and a pain in the butt.

To end on a positive note, glad to see Cliff still around. He's my first choice for the person I'd like to see win.

Tonights episode was pretty cool! I enjoyed the hand thrown weapons. The Hotchkiss was absolutely awesome though! In my opinion the coolest thing they've shot so far this season.

Last nights episode was good. I also agree that Ole' Red pretty much tried to play off his failure to perform with the "Well... No one performed well" type of explanation, so I was suprised to see that no one voted for him. Then again, he has been a good performer in the previous challanges and the team pretty much decided that they should vote based on that day's perfomance. However, this confuses me because I got the impression they were voting for Cliff because of his past performances. Sheesh.

I did enjoy seeing him clean up with that G34, that was sweet! That was a really, really ugly looking gun though. While I'm really finding it hard to really 'like' the competitors on this season so far as opposed to previous seasons, I think I like this guy and I'll be rooting for him.

Also, if you are interested in this show enough to discuss it like we're doing right now, everyone is right about listening to Calebs radio show. It gives you soooo much more insight into what actually happened on the show - the past two interviews has been awesome, as they really give some much need perspective. Sara gave a lot of valuable information on her performance, and her background and how it factored into her elimination. For those that didn't listen to the show, she was actually involved in an Officer Involved Shooting in previous years. She stated that she really felt very preassured to take her time and NOT hit any friendly targets during her elimination challage, as she takes/took that principal very seriously. She also stated she was very concerned about hitting a Friendly Target and having that used against her down the road in her professional life if by some chance she had to user her weapon in the line of duty again. IE: Scummy lawyer stating that her "Department should have been alarmed at the fact that she hit x amount of friendly targets on a TV show" or something of that nature. I can really appreciate the kind of stress that seemed to create for her. Also, she basically told all of the folks that have seriously been bad mouthing or questioning her ability as a LEO because of her performance to "shove off" - good on her.

At any rate, I just really love the fact that you get to hear the actual reality of the show (Which is quite ironic given the fact that it's a "reality" show, no?). I knew that what we were seeing on TV was far from how things play out, but it's great to hear specifics about it.

At first I felt the same too. Then I got to thinking (I hate it when that happens! ). She stated that she was familar with the M&P as she was issued one, but she didn't say if it was actually the same caliber or not. I know that if I picked up a Glock 22, 21, 31, etc I may not shoot as accurately or well with it, even though I'm very comfortable with my Glock 17. Sure the ergo's and overall operation are the same but the cartridge would make enough difference to throw one off. It also occured to me that it seemed she was taking more time to line up her shots than the other guy. I thought this might have had to do something with the Friendly targets mixed up with the Enemy targets, as after all any LEO would catch hell in a hand basket if they accidentally shot a friendly. This sort of makes sense to me specially considering the bulbs weren't a Torso or the size of a B27 target.

I really loved the first season. It really was great, as it went into new territory and kept the drama to a minimum. Last season, the drama got worse. I'd like to say that I didn't think that people were that big of jerks, but the general attitude of the the contestants remaining towards the end of the season was pretty dang lame. The show has become less and less about shooting skills, and much more of a popularity contest for those who have the most "impressive" resume or bravado.

I'll be honest, I'm not much of a person for competition - it's just not my thing. Watching a show that features folks who are skilled at shooting regardless of their employment or training really is fun though, because I truly LOVE seeing people enjoy our sport and do great while they're at it.

Now though, its turned into little more than a Pee-pee contest. Folks with huge egos just suck the fun out of it for me. I really hope this season wll change direction for the show, but I don't suspect it will. Each episode that airs both my wife and I loose interest in watching it.

Ultimately it's good to see more gun friendly TV shows on the air though. I can only think of a few shows where the main content is gun-centric. Sons' of guns entertains me, even though it is a reality show, as its neat to see someone from the Saiga community be given such a great opportunity. Sure, it doesn't show the finer points of reworking the gas system of an AK or the paperwork required for an SBS but that's OK with me. Then there is Top Shot, and I just shared my feelings on that. Both still have a positive impact for the shooting sports in my Opinion though. There is also Wednesday Night at the Range on Outdoor channel as well, but that is clearly geared more towards folks already into shooting and quite frankly I'm not much interested in it as the vast majority of the programs just aren't covering anything I find interesting (I really only care for The Best Defense).

Anyway, what I mean to say is while Top Shot seems to be going in a less enjoyable direction, its great to have a show that can get new folks into firearms in a good way. Just my 2 cents.
