No one has "officially" filed the papers to run for speaker because you can't do that till after the election, although Berman has said he will run.
Rep. Warren Chisum is testing the waters to see if he has the support needed to run for Speaker. Do not expect to see much action on the Speakers race till after the elections though. If the GOP picks up enough seats then the Speakers Race might get going.
Both Chisum and Berman were sponsors of the concealed carry on campus bill, http://www.legis.state.tx.us/BillLookup ... ill=hb1893

Re: Perry v. White on Campus-carry issue
Thanks for the additional information Charles! To sum it up, lets elect more Conservative Republicans in the Texas House and there will be a better chance of our 2nd amendment bills getting passed due to new leadership or the current leaderships reevaluation of the political situation!

Hopefully we can get this passed next legislative session. Last session Republican Rep. Joe Drive authored HB 1893 http://www.legis.state.tx.us/BillLookup ... ill=HB1893 that was supported by a bipartisan majority in the Texas House but was killed at the end of the legislative session due to the Democrats time wasting tactic of "chubbing" to kill the Voter ID bill.
