A shoulder carry rig is not that much different than a cross draw from the hip. Strong side IWB or OWB is safest manner to CCW. IMHO.

I have the OWB Serpa for my S&W. I am curious to hear the explanation of his positioning that you mention. I carry my around the ranch @ the 3:30 posistion and it comfortable and I can conceal it well with a polo shirt untucked.

Hopefully in a few days my plastic will arrive to carry off the ranch.

Whoops! I plum forgot all about asking the instructor as to the reasoning behind the carry positions he recommended. I'll be taking the course again this summer so I'll inquire as soon as he brings it up.

Over the weekend I took some tactical pistol training and the instructor briefly went over carry position for holsters. For those that carry OWB he suggested the holster be slightly infront of the seam down the side of the pants. For those that carry IWB he suggested the holster be slightly behind the seam down the side of the pants. This weekend I'll be going through the final phase on this type of training and I'll bring it up to the instructor before class as to why this is his recommendation for carry positions. Has anyone else ever heard this before?

I'm glad you mentioned that because I had not thought about that aspect of carrying. I guess it kind of narrows us down to using the stalls only!

Dan, You got the wheels turning in my head now about making my own tuckable holster. I would absolutely give up a Saturday to save myself $60 - $100! I really like the seperate "interior" belt.

I tried the 3:30 position last night around the house and I think I like that carry position the best so far. I still need to see how well it conceals with various shirt and pant types.

I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around the whole "tuckable holster" thing. I just think the "hooks" or "straps" will be too visible. Perhaps this is because I know that something is there. Also, it seems like I would have to wear a much larger shirt than normal.

I'm still breaking in my new holster around the house while waiting on my CHL to process. I purchased one of those JBP IWB holsters off of "cheaper than dirt" as my first choice. If I like the feel in the long run I'll upgrade to a better model. I'm also one of those guys that could stand to lose 10 or 30lbs. The five o'clock position is the most comfortable for me but when I sit down the gun "rolls" away from my body making it fairly obvious that there is something there. The four o'clock position yields similar results. The three o'clock position seems to offer me the best concealment under all circumstances. However, its the most uncomfortable position of the 3 for me. Does any of this sound familiar to any of y'all? Also, if you lost weight did it help or hurt with concealment?
