Well, at least part of the suggestion needs to involve the unsatisfactory fit, I would imagine, and the tailor's attitude was very unhelpful as well. The store sounds much like the one I visit out in Shenandoah, where if you quietly mention to the tailor that you need a "discrete fitting" and why, there is an area in the back of the store where they can fit you properly and ensure that the firearm is concealed without compromising your status. I suppose I might be able to understand her attitude if we were in Great Britain, or Australia where carry is almost unheard of, but while concealed carry is somewhat rare here, it is not unheard of, and she should be professional enough about it to be able to help you without feeling the need to call security "just in case." After all, it wasn't as if you said "I have a gun & you better fit me right, or else..." You informed her discretely of your CHL status & asked for accomodation in fitting your purchase to accomodate it. If she couldn't do that, perhaps she should have asked for another tailor to help you.NcongruNt wrote:Well, considering how freaked out she was initially, I'd say she handled the situation relatively well. I can't completely fault her for not wanting to fit with the gun... It is a small store, and there was no way to do the fitting discreetly and completely away from other customers. Their fitting area is almost smack-dab in the middle of the store and is without privacy walls. I agree that the people work there should be properly prepared to work with clients who carry handguns, and would imagine that this should be addressed at a training level. Concealed handguns had obviously not been addressed at all in this particular employee's training, as she was beside herself at what to do initially, and could only mutter "I don't think we allow that in here". The mall and store are definitely not posted in any way. I'll see if I can come up with a suggestion about this to send to their corporate offices.Mithras61 wrote:Personally, I would send a letter of complaint. The Men's Wearhouse near me is used by many undercover & business types, and fits without batting an eye. If the tailor isn't professional enough to handle a concealed firearm, they shouldn't be working there. Besides, what ever happened to "You'll like the way you look. I guarantee it." as claimed by George Zimmer

She hemmed and hawed (no pun intended ) about it and went into the back for several minutes and returned. I then noticed the mall security folks camped outside the store in their SUV (there was an outside entrance) for the remainder of my time there. She wouldn't fit me for the gun....
Please...spend your hard earned money somewhere else next time. There are many taylors mature enough to work with you regarding firearms.
