West Texas - High Desert plains
Central Texas - (Austin & San Antonio) - Low land desert - think good the bad and the ugly
East Texas - Wannabe forest
South and South East - Coastal Plains

We have mild winters and hot sticky summers in East and South East Texas
Never been to West Texas in the summer but the winters are mild
Central Texas kills me in the summer as there is not enough humidity.

So you guessed it right, I am in the Houston area.

As you are retiring I would consider the area around Houston as we have a real large Medical Center.
Brazoria county, just south of Houston is REAL gun friendly.
I don't know that I would classify the Hill Country as "plains" but otherwise that seems pretty much right. The problem is where do you draw the lines that separate the Hill Country from the low plains?
