If you open the cylinder on a revolver, there is no question that it is empty/disabled.

If you remove the magazine on a semi-automatic, there could still be a round in the chamber.

I always argue the most dangerous bullet in a semi-automatic is the first cartridge in the magazine. ;-)
That's why you don't just take the magazine out. You also lock the slide back so you can see the chamber. :cool:

The most dangerous bullet in ANY firearm is the one you're sure isn't there...
