Not sure what type of safe you have, but my Center-of-Mass safe has a 3/16" steel wire rope that holds it in place. It also has holes pre-drilled for mounting. It's made of 21 gauge steel, and has a reasonably solid lock (not sure but I think it's a 3-pin model).Boma wrote:I have a safe exactly like the center of mass one, but I use it for another purpose. I leave it halfway exposed under the seat and keep my gun in the glovebox. The little safe makes a good distraction and they'll spend their trying to pull the safe off the cable.
A pair of scissors or even a serrated knife will easily cut through that cable. I drilled holes on the bottom of the safe, bolted a bracket to the safe, and used heavy duty bicycle chain to secure it to my seat. =)
I don't know what scissors you're using, but I've never seen anyone that could cut a cable of this size with scissors (tin snips or cable cutters? yeah, no problem) or a serrated knife. I figure it's significantly harder to get into than the vehicle itself, and with it concealed under the seat it becomes even less of a target.
It may not be perfect, but it will be much harder to get into than the glove box...
