Do you not hold open the possibility that the folks he voted for didn't get elected?

I'm not sure why your bile is bubbling so intensely here.... something you're passionate about seems to be driving some really off-the-mark assumptions. At least that's how it appears to me. I hope you'll stop and do some reflective thinking. I typically find your insights thoughtful, even when I disagree, but I'm having a hard time finding constructive debate in many of your posts in this thread.

IMO, this right here is the unstated excuse (reason?) that many voters are so "NO WAY" about voting republican. After watching that speech, Cruze try to conjure up votes from his base, there's little to dissuade people from holding on to that opinion.

Here's the rub. I'm Jewish. I'm also a Tea party supporter. It's impossible to miss the very Christian overtones at Tea Party meetings.
But, here's the thing that most surprised me.

I attended a TP meeting last year where the headline topic was Religion in Public Schools (paraphrasing). I walked in the door prepared to be thrown out for speaking against allowing private (or more organized) prayer in public school. I was certain that was going to be the pitch. I could not have been more wrong. The speaker (I apologize for not remembering her name) was a military member (helo pilot??) who had written a book advocating for people of faith to send their kids to private, charter or home school, because public schools were not the right place for kids to practice or learn religion. There was clear support for school vouchers (which I support wholeheartedly), but not one person in an audience of several hundred tried to advocate for prayer in public school. It was a very real reset for me.

Will POTUS Cruz be an advocate for prayer in public schools, or an advocate for school vouchers? I believe the latter, but would like to hear that from his own mouth.

There's a huge difference between "progressive social programs" and "social Liberties". Will POTUS Cruz use the Bully Pulpit to advocate for stronger control over social liberties (gay marriage, war on drugs, 2A, school choice, etc) or would he try to expand social liberties and reduce progressive social programs? Again, I'd like to hear the answer from him unequivocally.

As recent experience has shown me, it is very possible that even a very religious person/group can be trusted to wield the power of government without trying to impose their religious beliefs on the whole of the country. Being guided by your Faith is not the same as intending to impose your Faith on others.

Cruze's actions to date lead me to believe he is the former.
He will not get elected unless he can convince those that would believe otherwise.

Re: Cruz Declares Candidacy for POTUS 2016

Inauspicious.

Liberty U. Students Forced to Attend Ted Cruz Speech, Make Stand for Rand
I strongly object to Senator Cruz's choice of venue for the announcement of his 2016 presidential bid: as is well-known by Liberty University students but considerably less well-known by the general public, all students are required to attend convocation every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Sen. Cruz is a friend of the Liberty University administration and has spoken at convocation in the past. As such, he knows that all students are required to be in attendance. I bear no ill will toward Sen. Cruz, but his choice to announce his 2016 presidential bid at convocation at Liberty University is a starkly deceptive one. Should the general public be unaware that all students are required to attend convocation, it would seem to the average viewer (as this will be televised and is already being widely publicized) that 10,000 supporters came to Liberty University to hear Sen. Cruz's announcement. However, every student in attendance has no say in the matter. Students will either attend convocation and lend to the illusion of widespread support for Sen. Cruz, or they will be subject to administrative punishment--specifically, four reprimands and a $10 fine--if they are absent. While Sen. Cruz has every right to run for president and to announce his candidacy, it is a highly deceptive, albeit politically savvy, move on Sen. Cruz's part to make his big announcement here. I do not support this action, and I am not alone in my belief that such deception is wrong.

I'll eat my hat if a Tea Party Republican carries a national electoral map in the next 10 years. Just not going to happen unless their tactics change and by definition of the party they won't.

Not even trying to say my feelings on the guy one way or the other, but he barely won in TX. This state is far more conservative than most. Do you really think there is a reasonable chance for that winning on a national stage?
I think Rand stands a chance. His message will resonate with libertarians, college age kids and independents that are fiscally conservative but socially moderate.

IMO, Cruz doesn't have a chance, but I still like his moxy and forthrightness.

Cruz is on Hannity for the full hour tonight.
If you're missing it, set your dvr to record the rebroadcast at midnight.

Worth watching.

Cruz Declares Candidacy for POTUS 2016

As much as I despise the NYT, I thought this was a fair analysis.
