I recall something along those lines also.... but DPS web site says otherwise...

No. There is no grace period or extension for an expired CHL, even if your renewal application has been submitted. You must wait until you receive the CHL before you are allowed to carry a concealed handgun.

Yeah, as a TV anchors said about being shot at in a helicopter, I must be misremembering. ;-)
I wonder where we heard what we think we heard? Maybe something proposed that didn't pass? :headscratch
